Speedometer Gone Wild!! 1950 Ford F1 Gauge Diagnosis and Repair

Unexpected speedometer failure on Edna. Today we go in to figure out what happened. We also get the new voltage reducer installed on the oil pressure gauge. As well as show off a new youtube camera trick. Sit back and enjoy!!

I thought that was the coolest thing. I wasn't sure where I was gonna use it. But today was the day. I couldn't see the screen cause it was too high but this was perfect. Plus the bezel on my watch let's me zoom in and out

The noise from the speedometerwas most likely caused by a dry or binding cable. You can usually pull the drive cable out of the housing from the speedometer end to find where the issue is. Check the drive at the trans end. Said binding can cause the drive gear to round out where the drive cable seats. Might have to replace the drive gear or sometimes a little epoxy can get the cable turning again. Have used a light coat of Vaseline on the drive cable as a cure for a dry cable

It was crazy loud. And annoying. I had a retaining clip in the transmission break, the one that holds the worm gear. The gear had slid back and wasn't making contact with the speedo gear. I explained it in one of my transmission videos

The lower right gauge was originally battery discharge/charge. No need for two temp gauges unless you’re watching your wobble pop temp.
