Credit to Cook, he took it very well. Riders today would have been screaming blue murder. And Crumpy, what more can be said about him? A 4 time Aussie champ in 1975, 1979, 1984 and 1988. He also finished second 5 times in his career. Then there was Billy Sanders who won it 6 times and the Aussie title winners trophy is named after him. They were the best Aussie riders of their era probably just ahead of the likes of John Boulger and John Titman.

I remember standing at Belle Vue pits entrance watching the riders come in. Think we were against Bristol. Posh Trailers and bike racks for Peter Collins and Chris Morton etc, then came Phil Crump in a Ford Estate car with the bike and tools all crammed in the back. Real scruffy and disorganized looking. Stuck with me for some reason.
