Great video Ian, and depressing :-) It'll be interesting how well it sells (not by you obviously). I suppose if there was enough interest you'd still sell it but that's a big unknown at this point. I'm still looking forward to testing it to see how it compares in my version of a range test. If it gets more mileage than the Sherman I'd be interested in it but otherwise probably not.

Thanks for the review and honesty! Yesterday I went on a ride with Alien Rides and some BAESK8 riders. Alien Rides had the Monster Pro and we rode around for about 25 miles. One of the other riders had a Sherman. The Sherman rider (who is a very experienced rider) thought the smoothness at 35MPH+ was superior to his Sherman. However, the sluggish controls and the horrible pedals were huge detractors. A very experienced 16X rider tried the Monster and hated the pedals and absolutely super slow responses. Those orange rubber grips on the pedals are horrible once they get slick. Alien Rides mentioned it was very fatiguing to ride just 25 miles because of the sheer amount of effort required to do anything with the wheel. If you just want to cruise at high speed and don't care about accelerating, turning or stopping then I guess you would consider the Pro.

Ballsy move calling out the flaws on this wheel like you did. Great to hear such an honest review. I guess it pays to have someone who buys they wheels for review rather than others who maybe reserved in they opinion for fear of not having free wheels sent to them to demo. Really baffling some of Gotway decisions here like you highlighted. That charge cover for instance 🙈 Gotway on a slippery slop here with competition against Veteran? Personally I think we may have hit a size and weight limit for these right now. I've been a Gotway fan since 2017 when I bought my first wheel, the 2400 Monster. Since then, I've bought 3 more Gotway wheels and thouroughly enjoyed them. I considered waiting for the Monster Pro to arrive before buying another wheel, but the Sherman reviews were so good and the innovation had me too excited to wait. The thing is it depends where you are coming from - I am talking about it from vast experience of a huge amount of wheels. If it was your only ever wheel and you knew nothing else you might just get on with it, but when you have other wheels to bench mark it against that you have done 1000km on - you know where something is going to work well AND ticks loads of boxes. This doesnt sadly.
@supercurioTube4 жыл бұрын
You're making the right decision to not distribute it 👍 I was wondering what you'd say about the ability to ride in the wet and wheel waterproofing. Maybe the lack of mudguard is a giveaway here? Denis Hagov (EUCSALE) said in his review that you'd void your warranty if you ride in the rain with it after observing how it's built. Since you and your customers are in the UK, and it's winter, just for this reason it would be difficult to make a case for the Monster Pro, and then there's all the other reasons (including the uncertainty about bearings) Maybe Begode will come with a reworked version in a few months, but in the meantime - nope.
@Speedyfeetuk4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I am eagerly awaiting Gen2 of this, killer blow would be a massive battery pack to give you winter, real world range of 100miles. It would be niche, but would excuse almost all its other 'flaws'
@supercurioTube4 жыл бұрын
@@Speedyfeetuk for a much higher winter milage than the current one, the battery packs would likely need to use different cells. As it was highlighted by Adam from WrongWay recently, the LG MT50 datasheet show very conservative figures for low temperatures, giving a hint that they underperform in these conditions. The poor efficiency of the LGMT50 cells in cold temperatures might explain in part why you observed a minimal gain in range compared to your Sherman despite the 400 Wh gap.
@Speedyfeetuk4 жыл бұрын
@@supercurioTube The 400wh more is approx a Ninebot ONE E+ difference - which with me on it did around 10-12miles. So with the extra weight and power requirements the small difference between Sherman and this Monster Pro sits about right. Its battery tech that needs to improve, and when it does these wheels will be doing 200miles and weigh less! :)
@supercurioTube4 жыл бұрын
@@Speedyfeetuk ah you're right, it also matches 62/3200*3600, which indicates a proportional enough relationship between Sherman and Monster Pro range per capacity at at comparable speeds. before you sell it open it and make sure there is water in it.. or you just passing ticking time bomb.. some of these had open holes where the LED brackets are.. make sure to put silicone there on both sides front and back and both left and right. for me Voltage over % any day. You need to put on the bigger Gotway pedals. I believe all orders now have the cast big honeycomb pedals.. you got first batch.. put those on and see how it is.. definitely less effort. Now as of the range. I can empty this wheel in 30-40 miles.. but I can also ride for about 80 miles if I ride in 20's .. I'm 300 lbs with gear.. and in below freezing weather.. Mine has 500 miles on it and I love it. It is the most comfortable wheel on the market. of course you can't compare that to 20 inch or 19 wheels.. Its similar to Monster V3 but my V3 suffers if I push into it.. not this wheel.. I do say that this wheel is good for people 100kg and up.. maybe 90+ but not really below that.. your feet will hurt.. I ride no pads.. I ride seated.. The motor is strong but hungry. I want to see range test in 20C weather, 90 miles wont be the issue.
@Speedyfeetuk4 жыл бұрын
Seated is the key, sitting down I can excuse this wheel, but it starts to fall off after that in terms of getting close to other wheels (and fails at purchase price and weight). Ours was delivered direct from Gotway approx end of Dec, so fairly fresh. (Can only review what they send - which we pay a heavy price in real money for). If they have updated it in the last 3-4 weeks thats going to pee some peeps who have already purchased off!
@archeebookingagent19094 жыл бұрын
@@Speedyfeetuk the honeycomb pedals they are sending are cast.. I'm not sure if that's a good choice though.. the CNC are way to go.. mine came before Xmas so same batch.. hence I'm asking you to open it and make sure all the holes inside for the LED cables and brackets are sealed.. as of the prices goes.. I leave that topic blank here because it's your business and how much you want to profit on each wheel is up to you. The purchase prices are where they are and it doesn't mean % wise all wheels need to generate same % margins.. on some wheels you make more money and on some you make less.. Especially now when ALi is opening stores all over the world..

What's your take on the Gotway battery fires that "Wrong way" pointed out recently? Also, there has to be a sweet spot in wheel size over which physics takes over and the rotating mass just becomes overly sluggish. Taken to the extreme I'm sure that a wheel could be created that we would be unable to control without adding motorcycle style input controls.

Thank you for this honest review. Even though it is bitter for the manufacturer, honest reports are the key to improvement. One thing we have to give Gotway (or the company with the new name): They are pioneers in the right direction! And even though the new Monster will definitely not become a best seller and is far from perfect as you judged correctly in your video, it is another important stepping stone towards the wheels we want to ride in 2025. Sometimes failing and showing how not to do it leads to significant improvements in the future. So even if I won’t buy this monster and stick with my older Gotway wheels and my Sherman, I appreciate the effort Gotway makes to develop new wheels and their sense of pioneering this rather new technology. I probably might buy another of their wheels (may be an MSP) just to support their cause.

Hub Motors used with available motor controllers draw high current to produce torque at low rpm. The large Monster Pro wheel has a radically different torque vs. current relationship compared to smaller wheels at average speeds. How much? :P Is the mud all cleaned up? I've heard good things, but need the power pads and Marty got 100 miles? I think have to ride the Sherman and the monster pro side by side for actual range comparison. Slight temperature and speed differences make a huge difference. I rode my 84v 1450wh msx 10-15mph got 60 miles range, 23-32mph only 30-35 miles range. With the bigger tire it might make it feel like you aren't going as fast, so you end up going faster than on the other wheels and killing the range. I really am curious on that.

So frustrating that they don't listen to their customers and sell their wheels as standard, with a mudguard! They just don't care enough and with the recent fire incidents of late, ingress of water and bearing issues, the company is rapidly losing its credibility. I haven't heard of any wheel recalls. Hi Ivan ;) I am not so sure, I think if the footplates were longer (no need to be anywider) and there was more area to get more leverage AND it had a lovely torque range for braking and accelerating then it would be a real contender for the price (but really, the killer blow would be MEGA range...as in leaps and bounds above anything else - give this thing 5000kwh and it could truly be termed 'pro' among its rivals).

This video you proved me wrong the products crap for the money and you simply stated facts now i'd like more honesty from others thinking about viewers rather than cash incentives with their affiliate links Keep it up.

only question (me being 6'8" about 2.1 meters and 235 lbs about 17 stone) what is good cruising speed/ top speed im going for Sherman as my long range pig but will admit I am a speed demon?
@Speedyfeetuk4 жыл бұрын
Weight and Speed are the 2 biggest killers of range, next on the list is temp (cold = bad). In terms of cruising speed - on any wheel lower the better for safety. But both the monster pro and Sherman (and many others) will push out 30mph and are safe as could be expected of such machines (in terms of component failure). It just the higher speed you go, also the risk of serious injury increases exponentially.
@mcfly_ev4 жыл бұрын
I’m 6’5” 230lbs I can cruise mid 30s no problem and still get more range than most other wheels.

ALL I want is Kingsong 16x Torque but with higher maximum speed (60km/h) preferably :S I have the 16x but the speed limit is crippling the wheel potential.

I could tell you hated it within 2 mins 😂 I got a set of the hex tech pedals for my Sherman. I am seriously impressed. Let me know if you want the contact info of the guy who makes them. “In the UK, the average height of a man - according to the Office of National Statistics - is 5ft 9in (175.3cm)” so not much in it really. Helmet doesn’t restrict the view (well some might but not the Kali I am wearing). Its fine as long as you are leaning back - but as soon as you lean forward (i.e moving lol) its out of view

@Speedyfeetuk4 жыл бұрын
Bearing cost not to bad, fitting more of an issue :)
@Ylte4 жыл бұрын
Well, it does win in the one-time heater department;) I think it is time to ditch Gotway altogether. When they can’t design a safe battery compartment and have a separate area for the motherboard, have a fuse between battery and motherboard, a body shell that doesn’t explode on impact, utilize bearings that last longer than a fart, and implement the simplest software safety features that prevent the rider from falling and the motherboard from blowing up, after years of complaining about these issues, then it is time to say goodbye. The EUC manufactures are slowly destroying the future of EUC’s, and if we don’t push back now and force them to make better and safer wheels, it will all be over in a few years. When an apartment building burns down with a fair number of casualties, because of a Gotway wheel, or a silly sod crashes into a group of pre-schoolers, because of high speed and no breaks, then the government response will be swift and final.

I honestly would still like you to do the 1000km review. Why? Because, as you and every riders already know, the more time you spend riding a wheel, the more we become used to it. Besides, if you can put some of your other wheels power pads, mud guard, seat and possibly put larger pedals and ride till 1000km, dry and wet weather, I’m certain your opinion will completely change for the better or the worse.
@Speedyfeetuk4 жыл бұрын
Years of experience tells me otherwise, and it costs us a fortune! Spending even more on it with all the things you mentioned would make me even more repulsed lol 😆 Wet weather is probably a no go by reports of others!
@FOSSO154 жыл бұрын
@@Speedyfeetuk damn at least I tried to convince you to do it lol. But yes, this is so true that as expensive as it already is, riders that still get it have to add tons of equipment just to (try) make it a better version that it was supposed in the first place. Finally, yes I heard about riding in the rain a no go, but it’s impossible when where we live in Europe it’s raining 60% of the time. 😂

It really bothers me that a company which specializes in EUCs, with plenty of resources at their disposal will make simple design flaws that can change a product from being a 9/10 to 5/10. Just like the little voltage reader on the top that you said should be moved back. How do they overlook that!!? Such an intricate piece of work and they slap a crappy plastic shell over it and implement a basically useless cut off switch. I wish I had the resources and knowledge to build wheels. I’d make some crazy good sh*t

I don't mean to come across as pretentious, however, I was actually surprised how EASY the Sherman is to throw around considering it's size. I'm only 5,8 and weigh roughly 12 1/2 st, 77kg. EDIT: Daniel, I remember you now. I'd commented on one of your video's 3 years ago. CRAZY! I've just seen your video riding the Sherman inside PET. You will adjust to the Sherman (like any other wheel) after some time with it. It took 17-20 miles until I truly felt one with the wheel. Take care man.
