for 'future' proofing anything old that can only support up to 6-6.2 volt you could solder a Buck converter inbetween the transmitter and whatever battery you are using. Just make sure you set the Buck Converter output to the corresponding voltage e.g. 6 - 6.2 volt BEFORE you turn the transmitter on. The downside of using a Buck Converter is that it will sip 0.1 - 0.2 of power so it will drain the battery if its just sitting on a shelf - again making sure to disconnect the battery if you are postponing the hobby :)

Did you need to do anything to convert the connector? I looked online at the battery and it looks like the one has a JST balance connector. Is that what you are using?

Daniel Lohin Hi. Yes. I changed the connector of the battery with one that fits inside the radio. Works like a charm

Thanks. .. since i receive this radio my brain stops in the 2 inteligent and fantastic wtf screws. I have to put some battery in this radio to forget this piece of no sense design .

monogramtube Removing the two battery door screws is everybody's complaint. But there is no way around it. The LiFe batt will give you hours and hours of playtime. But there is a catch; never leave the life battery connected after using the radio or it will drain the LIFE to 0% and damage the battery. After using the dx5r disconnect the LiFe battery and you'll have no issues whatsoever.

Edwin Cordero i will try to install a futaba switch (built in/ with charger plug and led)... i think that will be functional. .. and i don't to remove the to brilliant screws every time that i use the radio.

Mystic 5308 Mine used to turn off too. Just install the life battery and change the battery display to nimh . It won't affect anything. Mine is working now like a charm.

A CURRENT DRAW IS ONLY ABOVE 7V. YOU CAN SEND IT TO SPEKTRUM, THEY WILL FIX IT. THEN THERE IS NO CURRENT DRAW ABOVE 7V. SO YOU CAN USE THE SPMA9602 OR SPMB2000LITX !!!

This is wrong info. Just did this to my dx5r and it fried the board it doesn't do anything now except go into raw input test. I I'd everything just like in the video and when I set the cut off to 5.4 it phucked everything up

Hi. Like you saw in the video, everything worked perfectly after installing the LiFe battery. You must've done something wrong.
