The fact the story is being done by Drew Karpyshn who wrote the story for Mass Effect 1 and 2 as well as Knights of the Old Republic as well as those games connecting novels has me looking forward to this game

It's the time dilation that really intrigues me. I love it when a book or movie gets into that kind of time scale and actually does something with it.
@KryyssTV
@KryyssTV 7 ай бұрын
Except that time dialation doesn't work like that. The equasion refers to an observers perspective relative to the photons we rely upon to percieve anything. Since time is a measurement of change and not a universal force, as it is often misrepresented in sci-fi, and light is a constant by which change is measured the math will say that the rate of change is slowing down as we approach the speed of light. But this is false reasoning because we see this phenomanon every day and it doesn't mean time is slowing. Next time you're in a car on a highway watch the other vehicles and imagine they are photons As you match the speed of other photons those going in the same direction as you seem to stop moving. They don't change relative to you. But what about on-coming traffic? They are gong the same speed as you but have they stopped? No. Infact they seem to be moving even faster. Einstien calls it Relativity as there isn't an actual change, but simply a relative change. If you follow this illustration to its conclusion what you'd see is different depending upon where you look while travelling at light speed. Behind you would be complete darkness as your retina is no longer being hit by photons as you're outpacing them. But ahead would be a blinding white light as photons will be entering your eyes at an increased rate because you're moving towards them at the speed of light. But 1 minute for you will still be roughly 1 minute on earth. And I say roughly because the rate of change in atoms is slowed by gravity and who knows how quickly gravity fields act upon someone moving at light speed.

It’s make believe sci-fi like Mass Effect, relativistic science says those can’t work the way there explained either. I appreciate real world science but it is a little disingenuous to try and talk down to someone because they find the narrative backdrop of a video games story interesting.

@@KryyssTV the example you gave shows you are mistaken with your understanding of einsteins special relativity. you are treating light as tho it is sound waves, and this isn't how it behaves. Take, for example, you measuring the speed of a light source originating from you (say a flashlight) 1. IF you are standing still and measure the light's speed as it travels away from you, you will measure it as C 2. IF you are driving at a speed of half C and measure the light's speed as it travels away from you, you will STILL measure it as C (from your half C speed perspective). 3. IF i am standing still, watching you fly by at speed half C, and then you shine a light away from you, i would measure your speed at half C, and the lights speed at C. AND YOU would measure my speed to be half C (because you are at rest in your frame) and the lights speed at C 4. The only way for 3 to make sense, given that C is constant from both perspectives, is for time to dilate and space to contract depending on the frame.

@@KryyssTV also, for your "But this is false reasoning because we see this phenomanon every day and it doesn't mean time is slowing.", look up muons and special relativity. we do see this happening, with expected particle lifespan - and relativity explains the phenomenon with time actually slowing for them. it's not just a problem with light sources and your ability to witness events.

This game is looking and sounding incredible. Like others mentioned here, I saw a trailer for this in passing a few days ago and didn't think much about it at the time, but now watching this video changes my interest. Didn't realize a good portion of the core of the "golden age" of Bioware was behind this. The lore and background described here is reminding me of a cross between some of the ideas in ME: Andromeda and the movie Interstellar, both of which I've enjoyed, almost seems fitting that Matthew McConaughey is voicing a character. Looking forward to seeing more of this, and I do hope it is indeed the awesome spiritual successor to Mass Effect that quite a lot of us have been waiting for.

Same here. I first hear about Exodus during the Game Awards when it was first announced. I thought the trailer was neat but quickly put it out of my mind as I don't real find it appealing when games need big named actors to sell it(I understand that this can be helpful for games to reach more people, just not a fan it.) It wasn't until I saw a video from Mass Effect KZbinr, "Kala Elizabeth", on Exodus that I remember this was announced. Since then, I've been devouring any and all content on it. I find the premise and lore being built to my taste. While Dragon Age Origins was a spiritual successor to the 90s Baldurs Gate that became its own thing, I to hope Exodus is Mass Effect spiritual successor that grows into it own thing. Archetype Entertainment has enough golden age Bioware vets mixed with some Naughty Dog to make Exodus into something special.

I was wondering when there would be a sci-fi game that would take full advantage of time dilation into their story. The implication is immense. Witcher level transitions but entire worlds after a period of time, where the player can witness his consequences firsthand. Even if there are huge caveats to how they execute it, this sounds very innovative and the Starfield we were promised.

We actually do know what the combat will look and play like more or less, during the Game Award's reveal show (the one with Matthew McConaughey) there is an actual gameplay shown by the very end of the trailer, when Muse's song hits. You can check it yourself on their youtube channel, too. Also, the combat shown in that trailer has been recorded on PS5 (it's pre-alpha footage anyway) so I am hella curious how the game's gonna look like on PC (in the same trailer it is written at the very end that Exodus will come out on all platforms, so PC, Xbox and PS). But so far it looks very similar to Mass Effect, with jumping puzzles. 🤣

@@spellandshield Yeah, all we know there will be jumping, grappling hooks (therefore I think jumping puzzles), futuristic looking guns (so probably shooting electricity, plasma etc), that weird looking absorption of Celestial tech (I assume) shooting that ranged fist (well, I would've used a different, more spicy term to describe what I saw 🤣). So I guess the Jun we saw in the trailer is kind of like Shepard from all of the promo trailers of ME. Some type of default soldier? We'll see what Archetype reveals about game's combat in the upcoming months. All we can do is speculate. Awesome vid btw, just had to jump in and well, correct when you said that we know nothing about the game's combat in your vid (when you questioned if it's even going to be 3rd person like ME). But yeah, I don't blame anybody for not realizing the ending of that trailer was an ingame footage, cause it looks so smooth like a cutscene.

@@Nicottia Zevran probably has a very different personality from Tom. Tom strikes me as a very serious guy whereas Zevran is the opposite but limited information and impressions. There are sooooo many issues I have with this story with time dilation as the core of the experience. Fair warning, TLDR. So, for one. The idea that you should send people on an "exodus" at near light speeds to go find technology that can somehow help humanity as a whole. The science behind it prevents that idea from ever leaving the ground because at near light speeds you can only travel "forward" in time not "backward". So even if you were to go on an exodus and find something valuable, by the time you return to the place you left, so much time has passed that new technology has been made or whatever the issue was has probably wiped out humanity anyway, or another solution was found locally. It's a pretty useless strategy to take because nothing you try to do will have any real effect on the situation that you left. The next issue is the idea that your protagonist will have ANY chance at all, technologically speaking, of fighting against the celestials as antagonists because their technology would be so far in advance of what you have access to, that they just won't care about anything you try to do, because they have all the advantages. They quite literally evolved from your baseline, so they know all about what the tech was at the time you left and have created new more advanced tech in the time you've been gone, so there really isn't anything for you to do against them. Then there is the whole genetic modification thing of the protagonist. Sure, YOUR celestial parent may have contributed to you being able to use celestial technology, but, once again, that is only ONE type of celestial. It was mentioned that there are a lot of different celestial factions and presumably they all have different tech, and the biggest/most authoritative group had tech that led to 5000 years of peace and they had power that no other celestial group could match apparently. So why would it matter what celestial abilities you have if you can't interact with ALL celestial technology, including the big honchos? And what would even be the point? Sure, you can use celestial tech, good for you, so can they. Bringing celestial tech back to your world won't give you any kind of big advantage over other celestials, it's THEIR TECH. Anyway, I'm going on and on, but, yeah, I just don't see how this story is going to progress and how the MC is going to have any kind of meaningful impact on the situation. It just seems like no matter what you try to do, being able to only go forward in time isn't going to help, it will only mean that you can go forward to see the results of what the people left behind did and that you will keep falling further and further behind the tech race.

The issue as I see it is that the studio has fallen into the trap of using high fidelity visuals. Now don't get me wrong, the ex-Bioware guys know how to make great games and Drew is an excellent writer but they don't have the big budgets to play with any more so needing to pour to much time and effort into the art department needs to diminish not just the amount of content in the game but also has a negative impact upon the quality of the gameplay. They should have gone with a stylised look while letting the mechanics and narrative do the heavy lifting.
