Spellbound (aka Rama & Sita): Belfast Mela 2013

Spellbound is a thrilling tale of love, jealousy, betrayal and daring told through shadow theatre - a modern take on shadow play using real life, local performers in place of puppetry. Inspired by the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, the story follows the destiny of soon-to-be King and Queen Rama and Sita, and the twist of fate that sees their future placed in peril...
‎Bharata Natyam dance, an original soundtrack, live theatrical narration, a lantern procession and sumptuous special effects all add to the performance. Audiences can expect dazzling pyro punctuation and a spectacular fiery finale in the form of large scale fire-drawings -- taking traditional theatre into an exciting new format, and giving people the chance to see storytelling in a whole new light. Creative learning is key to the project and Walk the Plank work with local dancers, teaching them how to blend traditional Indian dance skills with shadow play - leaving a lasting creative legacy long after the show is over.
Here we join Walk the Plank and performers from ArtsEkta's South Asian Dance Academy on this epic adventure as we open the 2013 Belfast Mela.
