Direction and gravity are a bit weird in the sunken city. You go up through the moon surface to get there and up again to leave it. You the player are on the ground, but water disagrees with the gravity you’re experiencing. The big frogs insides can connect, and the background and terrain is warped and twisted. I’d say his world is just meant to be chaos incarnate like hundun

I love this OST. Everything in the Sunken City feels like just the right amount of "off." Even the music. You'd expect the final secret area to be some mass culmination of orchestral crescendos leading up to the boss, but no. It's calm, and it's peaceful, and that's the scariest thing about it.

As you fly far from the moon, trying to get home, you crash into another planet. you step off the ship and wonder; "what the heck is this place!?" you look at your journal and find out; this place was a home to Hundun, the god of chaos. as step into the unknown, you get a shiver in your brain.

Im pretty sure it's Earth. That's where flying up from the near side of the moon would get you. My evidence for this is: It is the first city created by mankind, who exist only on Earth (minus Shopkeepers). Second of all, Eggplant World is there. Eggplant World is a messed up version of Hell from Spelunky HD, which is also on Earth. Third of all, frogs never appear in Spelunky 2 but are very common in HD, which takes place on Earth. They are equally common in the Sunken City.

I believe this entire area and the boss at the end are inspired from Chinese Mythology, Hundun being an egg of primordial chaos and the name also referring to constantly turning waves. Alternatively I could be wrong, that is a possibility too
