Coming from someone who has flooded in FL 3 times in 2 years, $770 will get you nothing. I’m grateful I have a structure and need to gut then replace drywall, trim, doors and furniture. I was able to save somethings unlike these poor people in LA that are left with ashes 😢. Zack, I get paid on the 18th and then I will Venmo you. Every little bit helps and I trust you to help your neighbors. Thank you for the updates and taking action during this stressful time.

@ these people lost everything. Have you been to a hotel lately? Its a few hundred a night. Then add on gas, food, and clothing. Not to mention it’s CA prices. $770 is nothing. And don’t expect anything from the government. I was lucky to have flood insurance. A lot of these people had their fire insurance cancel a couple months ago ago. Also price gouging. In my area a house that rented for $1500 a month went to $5000 a month. I had to live in my gutted house for months.

Plus an add'l $43,600 - to be applied for, takes 10 days after inspection to receive. The $770 set by Congress is immediately given out - the day the president declared a disaster.

@@2012redrobin have you been in a disaster? It all sounds good on paper, getting help is not that easy. It takes weeks to get an adjuster to your home and not easy getting approval from FEMA. i’ve been flooded 3 times in 2 years. Hurricane happened at the end of September. I still don’t have a check from insurance.

@karenlamb2434 yes I have been in a disaster. Our house burned to the ground in the Thomas Fires in 2017. I know exactly how long it took to rebuild. Having lived in California my entire life, I've lived thru wildfires, floods, mud slides & several major earthquakes, including Santa Rosa, San Fernando, Northridge. But please do explain it to me.

Our family home caught on fire the day after Christmas, when i was 8. I remember both my parents were overwhelmed. We went to my grandparents. It took some time for all of us to feel settled and comfortable again and that was only 1 house, not a entire neighborhood/city.

What is the legal implications on the insurances that cancelled many home and content policies within the last 6 months before this event? Can people sue the insurance companies? Sorry not in the states so do not know the process. Isn’t illegal to your policy just cancel in the states? How are people meant to rebuild if the insurance cancelled their policy?
