He's just now starting to use that changeup a little more. I'd love to see him develop that more this off-season. Also, he has to cut down on the walks

Exactly. He gives up 1 or 2 random home runs per game, so really he's only bad for those ABs, but he has guys on base that cause the damage to be so bad and bring his ERA up. If he limits those walks and with him not getting so unlucky (2.48 FIP) he'll be winning Cy Youngs every year lol

If Strider were to be a closer, which let’s be honest it seems almost crazy he was ever even allowed to be a starter. Not because he isn’t great at it but because guys with stuff close to his are usually made into closers. All he has done since joining the Braves in 2 years is break Randy Johnson’s so innings record as a rookie and then break his own record in his second year. Speaking of Kimbrel. Man I miss him back in the day. There was absolutely nothing more badass than when the whole stadium knew what time it was and the lights dimmed, then fire was put on the video screen at the wall as the bullpen gate swung open and he strolled out. He knew, the crowd knew and he’ll the opposing team knew it was all over. I don’t know from a historical case but I simply can’t imagine there had ever been a more dominant reliever for a 4 or 5 year span. As nasty as Strider is I really, really hope Anthopoulos wises up and pays max fried as the ace he is. If he thinks the Braves can still be as dominant without fried like they have been without Freddie and Swanson he’s mistaken. Aces cost money, it’s a fact of life and what was the point of locking up the historic offensive juggernaut that is this Braves line up only to hamper them with a weaker rotation. If Charlie Morton has been worth 20 mil a year the last few years what on earth could be the hang up with paying fried the close to 30 he’s worth? They saved all of that money locking up their young core to team friendly deals and they should spend it on keeping the best lefty starter in baseball. Apparently he was willing to spend the money on Aaron Nola and fries pitches circles around Aaron Nola. He isn’t even close to friends level.

DeRo forgets Strider was coming off short stint on the IL without really any rehab and just got thrown into pitching on the road in Philly. Not really what you want in the playoffs. Had he gotten a few starts to stretch out and get his command in check that game would have been much different.

Coming from a Mets fan. This guy the first time I saw him pitched was a problem. I think I would take him over any starter in the league.

Strider kind of reminds me of a young Justin Verlander because when Verlander he was as nasty as they come. But Dero and Pena is right you are taught as a hitter to pick up the baseball at the release point and get your front foot down on time. But as a pitcher I was taught to slow your mechanics down which means to step slightly back whether your right handed or left handed. But to stay balanced throughout the delivery and that's where pitchers can throw really hard because they take their back leg and they drive with their back leg. But your also taught to keep hitters off balance and to change their eye sight and that's what pitchers like Strider makes them so successful. But your also taught to throw at the same arm angle as you would your fastball and that's what makes pitchers difficult to hit at times

How did this guy go in the 4th round? As a Phillies fan, he is the one guy I fear but I'm sure we'll figure him out one of the two games we'll meet and that'll be all we need!!!

THE STACHED STRIKER IS TO BE RESPECTED AND FEARED! Who Says a Two-Pitch Pitcher Can't Succeed in the Majors? Mariano Rivera did it, Kevin Gausman's doing it, and so can SPENCER STRIDER! One of Two Aces on this Braves' Starting Rotation that are TOUGH TO BEAT! And He's a SOLID CY YOUNG CANDIDATE on a WORLD SERIES-CALIBER TEAM! Leads the League in Wins and K/9 with an ERA that's Inflated! (ERA is 3.73, xERA is 2.98 and FIP is 2.82!)

He can't touch Blake Snell, the probable Cy Young winner. Strider has gotten worse as the season has progressed, Snell has gotten better. Nevertheless, I love watching Strider pitch.

I literally just watched Spencer strike out 11 people in a game on Tuesday night. Spencer is wonderful at producing strikeouts. I guess it just depends on if ERA, Ks, or wins are your thing.

Strider is 7-2 in his last 9 starts and gave up 1 or fewer runs in 5 of those starts. Lowest WHIP in baseball over that span. If not for Atlanta's spotty bullpen, Strider would come out after 5-6 innings like Snell and his ERA would be much lower than it currently is. Usage is a big factor that most people ignore.

Comparing a pitcher who already has a CY and been in the league for roughly 10 years vs a younger guy just in his second season? He can definitely touch Snell and will always be in the CY conversation.

The guy hasn't even pitched 2 full seasons. In his first 50 starts, he has more Ks than anyone else EVER, and he doesn't even go as deep into games as the others behind him. He's averaging almost 14 K/9, and he's only using 2 pitches! Just wait until his changeup is ready, and watch him develop a cutter. Game over.
