WOW! See the blast of air coming off the lead engines, push the cameras back and fourth and actually cut the sound out for a second or two. I also like how the train fits in it's surroudings. Everything is landscaped and clean. I saw the 2 girls or young women come up to the crossing as likes are going, and one stopped and grabbed the other one by the arm to keep her from crossing the track. Then when the train got there, I think the speed scared them, and they both turned and did a little run away from the tracks. Anyway, this is a great video. I love trains that can fly! Thank you for posting this.

Good call @3:23 she wanted to cross even with the gates signaling, but her wise friend said WAIT. Even better judgement @3:37 when they decided to step back as the train was about to cross pass them to avoid being blown by the force of the speeding train. As long as there are flashing red lights, you're immediate reaction should be to stop. That's why they're there. And it IS illegal to cross tracks when RR crossings are activated, even when it appears nothings is coming. Only in the event of a malfunction should you cross when you are absolutely sure there is nothing. I've been told this multiple times and I take it seriously.

Im still amazed at how fast these trains are being that they are in a location easily accessible by people, cars, etc. I live near Philly and the Amtraks we have here are in an area that is not easily accessible (unless you are trespassing) so its understandable that they go fast. But you would figure they would have a slower speed limit passing thru an area like this.

I was just at the Encinitas station a few weeks ago. This filming from 2013 doesn't do the trains true action any justice. The best place to film is at the center of the loading platform with the train heading northward. The train comes in fast, the entire station shakes, the signs at the station sway back and forth, there is dust in the air and you really have to brace your step. It looks exactly like what you see in the movies.

You can see the superelevation of that curve in the second shot (the one with the female trespasser). Amtrak is routinely hitting 90 MPH between Oceanside and San Clemente, thanks to ATS (automatic train stop).

Up in the Northeast is where we have electric power. Acela trains going up to 150mph and Northeast Regional 125mph. You could search videos of them on here for sure to see :)
@sylvie13836 жыл бұрын
I'm really late but I felt like replying. The tracks arent electric because Amtrak doesnt own them. The freight trains (in this case, BNSF) do. Theres only electric from Boston to Washington DC in the northeast as 90 percent of it is owned by Amtrak. (10 percent is owned my Massachusets Transit Authority)

The cab cars are where the engineer sits, and they’re wired to the main engine. I feel it gives the train symmetry
@F40-RULES6 жыл бұрын
AmCalJojo459 Fuel is saved from having to use a second engine on the other side, or having to waste it switching it to the other side. Using a cab car only requires the engineer to walk on the other side which is a lot easier and more efficient than having to use twice as much more fuel with a second engine. And without any engines, the train can't move. So yeah the cars are obviously wired to the engine.
