To give you a little bit of hope, I live in the state of New York and there are no plastic bags at the grocery store. We have to bring our own reusable bags!

No plastic bags are in California stores as well unless you purchase them just like in the UK. There are also no plastic straws allowed in fast food drinks (only paper straws).

We moved from Cambridge UK to the Houston suburbs and had all our UK furniture shipped over and found that all the UK beds will not fit a US mattress. We have a super king very expensive bed frame and had to recently replace the mattress nothing fit, it was either the right width but not in length or length but not width. Had to have a UK mattress shipped to us so we didn't have to buy a new bed. If you want fresh vegs and fruit find a local farmers market they are usually open on weekends and there are a few British Markets as well. Welcome to Houston!

Hi Elle, Just a heads-up: Bring your pre-purchased (50¢ - $2.00+) reusable tote bags to the food shops. If you don't, the cashiers/checkers automatically use the store's plastic bags to pack your items. Every shop sells reusable tote bags: Trader Joe's, Walmart, Target, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Home Goods, Ralph's, Vons, Stater Bros., Sprouts, Erewhon, Pavillions, etc. They are generally located at the checkout. If you don't see them there, be sure to ask. The cashiers usually will ask you if you need any bags. If you say yes, then they will start loading the plastic bags. Also, add A+D First Aid Ointment to your shopping list for emergencies like burns or cuts. A+D First Aid Ointment is a fabulous product (check out the entire product line) that should be on hand in your First Aid kits in your kitchen, bathrooms, car vehicles, makeup bag, sports bag, etc. This product works wonders and is not sold in the UK. That is why KZbinrs like Josie, make a point of purchasing this product every time they visit the USA. ❤🤍💙🥰

I lived in LA and New York back in 2014-2019 and it really frustrated me how they use plastic bags like its nothing, and just like Elle said for just one item, or even worse double bagging one item. I used to take my own bags in and have to have a mini fight with the cashier to stop her using new ones and just accept I wanted to reuse my bags to be eco friendly, they just couldn’t understand it! It’s good to see in other comments that NYC has caught up, as it really concerns me that such a huge country is so wasteful, and it doesn’t surprise me that it still is. I LOVE USA, but please help yourselves when you suffer with so many problems, as well as the rest of us. On another note, Elle.. you and Connor are just the most wonderful parents, it is a joy to see parents who always put their babies first and teach them they are loved above and beyond, while showing them two parents who are together on everything, you are a joy to watch. In Australia (an even tinier island than UK) don’t use plastic basically at all. We can’t purchase plastic bags, we can only buy reusable bags or cardboard bags. Our fruit don’t come in any bags, you just grab it and put it in your own reusable bag. You can’t get ANY plastic straws, plates, or cups etc at any store in Australia. You should’ve moved here 😉

You can get paper bags at most grocery stores… Also, all of the stores have recycling bins for the plastic bags to be recycled

Hill country is beautiful! We go to Fredricksberg every summer!! Rent a house on the outskirts of the town then explore so much to see the town itself it’s perfection! Nice winery’s, loads of lovely little shops and places to eat!

We have been going to Florida every year for around 16 years and we think the exact same about the plastic bags. They only put a couple of things in them and you so right you literally come out with about 30 different shopping bags. It’s crazy, I would defo be buying some reusable or tote bags to bring shopping. Love your videos xxx

Omg Romeo was too cute at his photo shoot and together with Saint...adorbs! 📸 They give a lot of plastic bags out here in the DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) area as well, but if you bring your own bags & let them know then they will not pack your items in a plastic bag. Some stores even give you a bag credit for bringing your own bags. We do our very best to recycle at home and use totes whenever we shop. 🛍
