The "SHOCK" of where she'd be at 55 if she didn't rein in her spending habits was, I think, the best example the show has come up with for an example of excessive spending. I can tell you that if someone had done that to me in my twenties or thirties, or even my forties, I would have saved a TON of money! Luckily I always managed to repay my massive debts in full without declaring bankruptcy, and without borrowing from friends and family. As dumb as it was, I was able to take a loan from my 401k, repaying myself at a much lower interest rate than those awful cards were charging. Hope she was able to break free!

A good comment. I also feel that the Jay/Ben team could call in a doctor from time to time. Many of the spendaholics on this show have dreadful diets and alcohol addiction. The shock of being confronted with how your health will be in 10 years if you fritter away your money on fashion instead of buying fresh fruit and veg, would be sobering - no pun intended. (Was she really going to drink a whole bottle of wine in one evening all by herself?).

@elizzy8754 1 bottle of wine in an evening is a light night for a Brit 😂 when I used to go out, a bottle of wine was just pregame while doing my hair and makeup and then I'd drink at least triple that over the course of the night too! British drinking culture is wayy different to most of the world. A lot of my friends across the pond were super shocked to realise that teenagers here start drinking around the age of 12 or 13 with their mates whilst a lot of Americans don't touch alcohol until they're like 17/18. Some even older than that. With parental consent, it's legal to drink from the age of 5 in the home here so I had my first drink when I was about 10 (a glass of wine with Christmas dinner). It's just not that big a deal here
@Sacheen8111 ай бұрын
@@CraftyWitch1990 I started drinking socially (pretty much partying with friends every weekend) at 16. That held true until I got pregnant with my daughter at 25, at which point I gave it up and became a responsible adult for my daughter. I just wish that it hadn't taken me sooooo many years to get my shopping habits under control, what a waste of money!!! 😪 It really was an addiction. My 'mother' is a little like Miriam with the living on the edge thing. She inherited almost $100,000 between 1985 and 1990. Bought a house with a $20,000 mortgage. When we sold it, the mortgage was $97,000 because she was constantly borrowing off it. She only had $45,000 for retirement - she worked full time until she was 75 but spent everything on her unemployed boyfriends. She admitted she isn't comfortable having money. She prefers the excitement of trying to scrape together money for her mortgage and property taxes, rather than setting money aside and just paying it. Paying her property taxes was all drama - borrow off the life insurance, borrow from her aunt, pull money off the home equity and panic herself with the thought that she wouldn't get the money on time (she looooves to panic). Obviously she is far more troubled than Miriam. Her search for excitement extended (until she had to stop driving) to picking up drunk, homeless hitchhikers thinking she had fallen in love and moving them into her house. Disastrous results every time, of course.

She is afraid of being exposed emotionally ,especially with her singing which is pure fantasy and not her real passion.The therapist missed the issue of the relationship with her father ,who she feels entitled to get him to bail her out financially and enable her not to develop as an independent adult ,unlike her siblings who have successful careers.I think she has abandonment issues from her childhood ,with her father who obviously adopted her ,after leaving Nigeria age 5 .The issues of her feeling left out at a predominantly white school ,I am sure this included racial exclusion and other experiences which she does not want to explore ..instead she presents this facade of a giddy immature girl with a rich daddy to save her.I hope she finds herself and stop hiding behind her clothes and spending. The therapist was very superficial in this episode .

Her father had her with her black Nigerian mother. Where do you get she was adopted?
@godschildyes4 жыл бұрын
SHE IS NOT ADOPTED! Her father is her REAL FATHER and she does not have "Daddy Issues". Her father just enables her because she's the baby and is very immature. She has confident issues from the guilt she's felt from under achieving and living irresponsibly.

Wait...all this & she is renting a ROOM?!!

She's overspending much less than a lot of people on the show, which is at least something. To be honest, the set up of flatsharing at 27 is entirely normal, especially in London. It was pretty normal then, too. With clothes, I think that if it's something she'll wear for years, like a suit or formal dress, then spending a fair bit isn't too unreasonable, but if it's fast fashion then it's just a waste. I wonder if she could have become a personal shopper. She could do all that shopping, make money from it, and not accumulate all of the clutter. Lol. I wrote that before getting to the end.

I thought that her room was fairly large. Not bad at all considering this is London. This show was about 15 yrs old now. I would think that someone who lives there now would consider themselves lucky to have this space.. I was thinking that it had the potential to be really cool with some good design elements and some organization.. I'm glad that she got rid of some of the clothing that she didn't use to free up some of the space.

What comes out of this woman's mouth sends shivers down my spine. Her spending habits is out of control. What a relief that I don't care about designer brands. I buy cheap.

That dude orian was on a show called young dumb and living off mum it was about young adults that scrounged off there moms and dads (one guy it was his grandmother) so he's got no need to comment about somebody's spending habits at least its all her own money unlike him
@carolannemckenzie38493 жыл бұрын
But it's not her own money Charlotte. It's the credit card company's. It's like when you but a house, you don't actually own it until the mortgage is paid off. The mortgage lender owns it 😁

I also love to shop. However, I was able to buy a new home with no loan or mortgage, and I have no debt. Right now, I am really tempted to shop online since I am staying at home and social distancing due to the Coronavirus. I am trying very hard not to order a new Coach bag from the Coach outlet site.

These people are desperate for fame and contact production companies to get a show. One friend gets a show, then the next one wants it and on an on. Saddos.
