Last year, my mum took her own life after a torrid mental battle. However, there were two things that had always made her happy - the sea (she is at rest in the sea, just next to The Needles) and birds. And her favourite pastime was feeding gulls wherever she went (often to the chagrin of those enjoying their fish and chips :D) and having a chat with them. As her executor, I had to wait for her estate to be released whilst the coroners' backlog cleared out, but one of her wishes when she was alive was to leave a nice sum to a bird charity. I have been pondering which one to choose but this video has made that a lot easier. I'll be contacting Bird Aid tomorrow to arrange a transfer in her memory. Thank you Arryn for making this video of such lovely, generous people. Give Steven a wormy (or a bit of haddock) from my mum.

I volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Pennsylvania. It is constant work, especially during baby seasons…. And it costs a lot of $$ and time, like she said. Constant feeding and cleaning, but seeing them get better and getting to release them or provide a safe place for them to live out their life is really rewarding. If they lose their property, that would be horrible. I’m hoping this wonderful Steven community pulls thru for them!! I’ll do my part!❤️

Unless Bird Aid has changed hands in the last few years, I think I've met this lady! I used to volunteer at a nearby wildlife rescue center (East Sussex WRAS) and due to how packed our center got in the summer when we rescued a baby seagull (which we were doing constantly during summer months) we would sometimes bring them to Bird Aid, since they're her specialty, leaving us with space for other animals like hedgehogs. So I went there three or four times to drop off new babies. It's terrible to see they're at risk of closing down!

Obnoxious, pushy, and outright mean at times seagulls always rubbed me the wrong way. They're like noisy, flying raccoons. If that’s not sacrifice, I don’t know what is. You can hear her passion in her voice. Thank you, Arryn, for bringing a much needed light to her darkening world. I thought she was going to cry a couple times when her voice cracked when saying how long her days were, when she needed to get out early for her sons bday, when talking about the ones who she’s connected with when letting them go. She’s a beautiful soul just like you and it was meant to be that this all started with a simple video about trying to gain the trust of a seagull! 🥰
