Even through microphone recording, youtube's compression my DAC and headphones you can clearly hear how spendor sound is more transparent, full bodied and natural. Elac's are really thin, there's a crater in mids, lower mids.

Guess people hear differently, like Spendor a lot especially mid to high, Elac though wonderful in the mid bass, potent, regimented, sounding expensive.

Despite listening through KZbin on my mediocre desktop speakers, I can still clearly hear a difference between the two. In this case, despite my German heritage, I would go with the Spendors. They have much more body/ presence, or at least it seems that way. I suspect that would carry over in real life. I have a feeling that in person, the Spendors would have much more of a natural, full-bodied, 3d sound, more so than the Elacs seen here.

Elac marks the rhythm nicely, but Spendor plays with a nicer midrange and creates a more interesting atmosphere.

Spendors are the best I've heard on u tube after listening to the other top end. brands. If l had that kind of budget, l'd surely wouldn't hesitate to purchase one.

Sympathique petite comparaison. Les Spendor semblent plus ouvertes, plus détaillées et plus dynamiques, mais je trouve les Elac très agréablement musicales, homogènes et nuancées. Après ce n'est qu'une histoire de goûts..... Le magasin est propre et bien rangé... ça fait plaisir à voir.

Bonjour a vous Stéphane je possède une paire de Elac fs 407 Ampli Sugden A21se lecteur Naim cd5xs plus alim nap le tout cablé avec Absolue Création InTim c un bonheur "absolue" !!! Il faut les avoir écoutée sur place ici je suis pas convaincu de l'enregistrement de la vidéo qui est bizarre je trouve ... Bien à vous Thierry.

I had a pair of Elac BS403 bookshelfs for a while....weird/poor sounding speakers, dark in the mids and ill defined in the bass but thin and reedy and sibilant from the Jet tweeter... everyone who heard it preferred even my old 1/5th the price Wharfedales. Thankfully i bought pre owned and got back what i paid and moved onto PMC Twenty 21 which were in an entirely different league! Spendor speakers always sound wonderful, extremely smooth yet detailed at the same time. The D range has a little more punch than their usual signature sound, very well behaved bass and easy to position and drive....wonderful D7 and 7.2!!

All depends on synergy, components, room, placement etc i`ve heard the Elac 407 sound a bit thin and uninteresting little bit sibilant in one system but in another system one of the best i`ve ever heard and made me want them!

@@sarahX.. I wish i shared your enthusiasm. Couldnt get mine to sound good in any system but im a tube lover and they needed squalid state for the bass unit i felt. Anyway, you are too gorgeous to be into hifi, this is an ugly old mans game! 😂😂😂

My partner and i we love audio and have gone through some very high end components and cables etc. I was originally interested in the Elac since i was told they were voiced very similar to Adam Audio active speakers, also sharing similar AMT tweeter, which we are fans of in the past and using in our second system. I agree recent Elac have their own sound which many might not warm to but OTOH if mated to the right gear/cables can produce quite a unique beautiful natural easy listening yet dynamic expansive detailed presentation. We would not really keep them in our main system but for a particular sound, with sysnergistic components,i in a second system i personally hold them in high regard and think they are allot of fun.They thrive on HQ source and certain HQ powerful wide bandwidth warmish amplification that possess excellent control e.g. Crayon amps. I would never partner these with tube amplification! But then again i dislike tubes just as much as i dislike cheap SS hehe.

Spendor by a longshot. I have Spendor sp 7/1's and Elac bs-403. Love both but i prefer my spendors. I want a pair of the d7's nice clip

would say spendors midrange is more detailed and powerful while elacs bass is deeper and tweeter more detailed (which might contribute to the midrange seems lacking) The spendors midrange might sound better in some ears but in mine it is almost to pronounced. Elac seems better balanced but i think thats just my point of view.

the Aiwa sounds so much deeper in the depths of the sound stage. while the elac has more of the than the. spendor makes great air conditioners, great imaging. way superior, no contest.

I ordered the Elac fs 407. The Spendor is out of my price range at the moment. Hoping for the best. Haven't listened to either one in person. $4000 us dollars for the Elac. $6000 for the D7. Almost impossible to find either one used.

Spendors for me, more open and transparent midrange and slightly better bass extension. The Elacs sound a bit 'chesty' in the upper bass / low midrange and the rest of the mid range slightly recessed. The D7's are top of my wish list for my next speaker upgrade.

It's wrong to judge a speaker without giving it the conditions it needs to play the way it was intended to do. When I test speakers I always have to change something in the soundchain to make them sound optimal. Not one speaker I've used have worked well without a change of equipment around it. Also, Spendor gives 90 dB@1watt while Elac gives 88. This must be addressed with the volume control when testing.

Both speakers play well...the spendor thanks to the dinamics and pitch in the higher freq. seems more transparent while the spendor acts more polite...I wonder if that's true at all volume levels or if maybe can be overcome with more current. The solution would be the spendor dinamics with elac's treble

Elac stronger control and clear , good for classical. Spendor is warm and slow , good for human voice. If you use it for the wrong music everything is bad.
