SPES AP Light 350N & 800N Comparison.

I've tried the AP Light NG 800N and would recommend it to most people. Personally, I overheat less with the 350N even with a chest protector so that's my setup even in winter. Really hoping for improvements in the future regarding protection with breatheable properties and less compromise between the two factors. Thanks for the review, now I can simply link to this every time someone asks about a comparison between the two jackets.

Glad it's helpful for that! Ya I use them evenly now, about 50/50. And let students use the other. If you already have a 350N it's not worth the upgrade. You'd have to wait a few generations. But I recommend people to go strait for the 800N for a first jacket like you mention. But I've been recently doing smallsword a bunch, with stiff musketeer blades. And your turned to your side so much that half the thrusts miss the foam and the plastron with the 350N. For drilling I could only handle 30 seconds then had to switch jackets.

Hi, have you got experience with the new AP light Plus 350N? It suppose to have the same inserts as the AP light NG 800N (inserts all the way up to the collar bone) so it should fix some of the issues around the chest and collarbone area? I haven't seen any pictures of the AP Light plus 350N with the inserts that are included so i am looking for any info regarding the AP Light Plus 350N.

No, that's brand new. Like a couple months I think. I just double checked, it has replaced the AP Light 350N. They don't bother making both. If you want the lightest jacket possible then the AP Light Plus 350N would be the choice over the 800N. The Plus looks identical to the 350N so all the above would stay true, apart from bigger foam pockets. And price is probably the other main factor. 800N offers minimal advancements for 50 more Euros.

I just received my AP Light Plus 350N, can confirm it has foams that go all the way up like the NG 800N shown in the video. However it doesn't have bicep foams, just shoulder like the original AP Light.

Hi, do you think that AP Light 800N from spes is worth to buy as my first jacket for long sword? Another option is AP 800N (heavy model). I would prefer light one because it has better ventilation and im overheating much :p it is also easier to clean, but it has much less protection :( and here is my question is NG 800N light still worth to buy as first jacket in comparison to heavy one (im planning to buy extra elblows and forearms protectors + chest protector form PBT, regardless of chosen model) One of my hema instructors said that heavy is better and he would never recomended light jacket as first jacket.. but i still dont know.. another instructor (he is training saber) said that it is easy to push some extra protective foam into light jacket. Third instrucror said that light jakcet is good but i will have always some extra bruises. AND 4th one said that light model give no proteciton and it is better to buy heavy one xDD Help! :D

Lol oh my. Most of my students buy AP Lights as their first jacket. So yes I would recommend the AP Light. I don't use the heavy jackets ever. I do know a few students who preferred a heavier jacket. But usually they end up wanting a light jacket later anyway.

How did you attach the bicep guards to the wrist? Did you have any issues with it while sparring?

Just poke holes in velcro, and zip tie it. I think you do have to cut the pieces shorter though. Maybe had to drill one new set of holes in the plastic. It's ok. Definitely usable, but I have lots of other forarms to use.

Where does one buy shoulder pads for spes 800 and the foam inserts because I can’t find those parts for sale anywhere.

They seem to still be on sale everywhere. Here’s spes histfenc.eu/en/men/97-pro-set-shoulders-and-upper-arms-5909378287547.html But superior fencing also sells them. And Purple Heart armoury. As for foam inserts they don’t sell it separately. It’s very cheap foam. So there will be local alternatives. Sometimes you get something better as packing for an air soft gun etc.

Is that AP Light 350N or AP Light NG 800N that you insert into washer machine? 2. Does AP Light NG 800N and AP Light Plus 350N able to wash using washer machine? 3. Can we use detergent or soap to wash the jackets such as Ap Light 350N, AP Light NG 800N and AP Light Plus 350 N in the washer machine? Sorry for having a lot of questions, since i am in process of deciding between all those 3 jackets 😅

Thank you, and no problem! 1/2: You can wash any jacket on "delicate setting" in the washing machine. There is no difference between jackets for this. 3: Yes you can use a small amount of detergent when washing.
