I love how everyone almost immediately forgot that Jarret told them that yes, it is for food.

What they leave out of this is their arrival at Gilmore's parent's house. They ask them about fusaka and they had not heard of it, which, combined with the knowledge that Jarrett has a questionable past, is why they decide that it's a drug and not for food.

The best part of this whole thing, for me, is that Scanlan is battling through some low-grade manic depression through all of this. It's so wonderfully wrapped up in the pure charisma of the character and he interweaves it all so well without it ever feeling heavy. Whenever I watch these clips, I am always reminded of how powerful Sam's abilities as a storyteller really are.

Had they not asked, there would have been no other occasion for jarret to ask. The players asked for a side quest, and as a DM, I am confident he 100% he pulled this one from his ass. Just the way he said Fusaka the first time, he was making that up as he was saying it.

Well... Fusaka is I believe something we call NUTMEG. It can get pricey in larger quantity, is mildly hallucinogenic and in small amounts enhances the taste of meat greatly :)

The funny part for me is that this spice is actually really close to a real thing, Asafoetida. An herb used in Ancient Rome but now illegal in several places because it is mildly poisonous. It was also used mostly for meat dishes.

Scanlan was the quintessential US tourist showing up in Jamaica or Amsterdam trying to score weed for like the 2nd time in their life. Also him getting frustrated at not being able to find the dealer and magic his way out of his shame was just pathetic, like me as a DM wouldve been like "sorry Sam not every character in my world is as stupid as you".
