Honda ATV's are great! I have a '02 250 Recon that just wont die, and my brother is still running a 2x4 '01 350 Rancher! I do have a Pioneer 500 SxS for around the house, but your right, the ATVs can go just about anywhere and the SxS can be limited to its overall size. I love the reliability of the SHAFT drive and a real Gear on Gear transmission. Harbor Freight 3500lbs winch is perfect for that size ATV, and the solid rear axle is awesome for trailers, the tongue weight doesn't affect the rear suspension like an independent rear. And I've moved a 18' Bayliner Boat across my yard on several occasions with that little 250.... they are stout little units! And I built my trailer for behind my Pioneer 500 from a Harbor Freight 4x8" trailer... Maybe a little big for that atv, but honestly its the perfect size for moving wood around the property...

I have a 2005 Rancher 350 ES which is not all that different then your current model other then fuel injection, engine displacement and the dashboard. I use it to haul and plow snow, it’s easy to work on, and will last a lifetime. Other than new CV axels at the end of 2023 and basic maintenance it’s all original. If it came with Maxxis tires then I don’t see them popping all that easy from basic woods use since they are highly rated. Here’s a great option for a 2” receiver. I’ve been using it for a few years now. I will put the model number below since KZbin won’t allow the post with the link. KFI 101465 Winch Plow Mount , Black

I’ve been looking at ATVs and I really like the Foreman , it has differential locker and the headlight on the handlebars, and little bit wider stance and slightly larger frame than the rancher and of course the 518cc engine for a bit more power . And I want the electric power steering too . I think the foot shift is the way to go , and the solid axle is tough . But I’m Not sure how does it ride out on the trails with the solid axle ?
@mikemarriam5 күн бұрын
@NorthwoodsNomad Mine has independent rear suspension. I'm over 70 and didn't have any riding experience when I got it. Since then, I've learned that, if you hang on to it, in four-wheel drive, it'll pretty much go anywhere. I've locked the diff once cause I got hung up in the middle of a swamp and it crawled right out.

Congrats on the new purchase...can't go wrong with a Honda ATV! I own a 2006 Honda Foreman 500, 2WD, manual shift that I bought used in 2009. It was like new and the previous owner added SS wheels & Mud Lite tires. I have never needed 4WD with these tires and I have unknowingly ran one of the rears without air and never noticed. They're not the best solid surface tires but perform great in sand, dirt and mud. Maybe check into them?

We bought the smaller Recon used 2 yrs ago for $3k. It's a workhorse we use for dragging horse pastures/arena, spreading seed, moving mulch. Get the beefy Ohio Steel Pro swivel dump trailer. Lifesaver for moving/dumping mulch and irresponsibly giving joyrides at 30mph.🍻
@markgilles-ih8go5 күн бұрын
My suggestion, personnel experience with my ATVs is to purchase a ATV bolt-on tongue adapter for your hitch. The adapter will create more distance between the machine and the trailer. Allowing you to back up or turn in tight places (wooded areas) and to prevent jackknifing. The adapter will also give you the option to add an adjustable trailer hitch to change the height or drop, to accommodate the height of the trailer or too add attachments.

Don’t get mad at me for giving a little piece of advice, but make sure you’re in the right gear for what’s ahead of you. You never want to keep on gas when you do your shifting that driveshaft will chew the shaft on the transmission up pretty good then you’ll have a seal around the transmission shaft too replace but that is an excellent purchase. Nothing beats a Honda. I have two sportsman’s of my own only because at the time I couldn’t get the Honda’s I wanted in time Lol happy trails buddy. Be safe. enjoyed that video.!!!

Yes, Honda is the best utility atv. I love my 2017 Rancher. I have a 2” hitch and it works great! Mine is IRS; which makes for a more comfortable ride but I don’t think it makes a difference for towing. "Best" is subjective based on use case. But for farm and work purposes, Honda 4x4 quads are the best. I got a 2022 Rubicon and my old back really appreciates that IRS. Perfect for hauling a few bales of hay or getting a little trailer of firewood out of woods where side by sides can't fit. I, also, appreciate the engineering on a Honda. Everything is easy to get to, so maintenance is simple.

I think you should make the trailer. It would be good content. I have the independent suspension version and I put the receiver hitch on it with a rear winch mounted on it. Mainly so it can lift me out of my wheelchair so I can get on it. I just put the synthetic line on my front winch and it was kinda a pain. Mine is a 2013 model with any luck they made it easier but I doubt it. Fuel injection is great absolutely no issues with that. My only issue has been with the batteries but I don’t ride it much. I put 8 ply tires on it immediately after buying mine. 12 years and I’ve never had to add any air to them. I use mine primarily for pushing snow in the winter time. Overall great machines

I'm a firm believer that the best atv would have to be mission specific. I always thought that the Polaris were the best , I rented just about every brand available and had my mind made up. Until one of my trips, I had the wife with me, and we rented two different machines, it wasn't that my wife wanted her own ride no she actually wanted to ride two up, that made the direction of our choice go to a completely different direction. Now I believe that we've found the best for our missions. I will tell you that the wench is a necessity that will save your butt on the trail, I have a much heavier rear axle with the hitch options, storage is a must and it sounds like a great idea with the Milwaukee boxes, I use mine for ice fishing so my storage needs are different along with hand warmers and windshield that is detachable for the summer months. Lights are always a issue, I have the projector style and have found them to be sufficient for my needs but I've thought that maybe a spotlight would be handy. Now trailer or wagon, work specific again, I use one for hauling heavier stuff and one for our camping stuff, one can trail behind our truck and one has to be trailered , the wagon axles don't like highway speeds. I also use my quad to tow my 16 foot boat trailer loaded, and a kayak trailer, and another trailer for horse feed. I do have more hp than you but that all came with testing that many machines and don't sell the electronic options short they have their uses. The same plug-in for our heated suit can be used for the fish finder or GPS unit. For those of us that like our Quads, the only difference between the side by side is we throw our leg over the top. You will have plenty of use for it.

All of Hondas newer ATV's and SxS's are shaft drive. We are looking a SxS's for our rural property in TN and have done research on every manufacturer. Everyone else is using belt drive. They're easy enough to change out but, inevitably, you'll blow a belt in the field then it's a pain in the ass to do. The shaft drive is pretty much bullet proof and that's what we're going with. And, it would need to be super light if you want any of the 850 lbs left for actual load. Might be better to use you beefier tractor for the real hauling when the ground is dry or frozen. Use the Honda for hauling the tent and campfire wood 😉 and for other fun stuff. Thanks for the video. Nothing wrong with having the belt until that little water hole is suddenly 3 feet deep, now you've dunked it and can't get home. Ask me how I know. F you Polaris. The direct driveshaft is the only way to go.
@Techprep235 күн бұрын
Best is a Yamaha or Suzuki. Honda's electric shift is unreliable. Famous for going out. Either the buttons work and the dash indicates a gear change but doesn't shift. Or the electronic shift doesn't shift at all. Foot shift Honda is the way to go for long term reliability. If you want a honda. The dct transmission is a mechanial beast. It will last a long while. But you won't beat Yamahas CVT. It's been the best CVT transmission since its release on the 1989 Yamaha breeze 125cc. Suzuki CVT transmissions are a close second. Both have v belts always under tension. Which helps in engine braking and down hill decents. Unlike Polaris and Can-Am where the CVT as it expanse it has to grab the belt and the belt snaps into tension from the plates already spinning to grab it. Hence why you see Polaris and Can-Am with a spare belt in their rack bag if they are going long distances. And the tools to change a belt. Honda's are a great work horse machine. Don't expect a lot of power. But great low end grunt. Great for farm use and some recreational trails. All though a foot shift still has its place. My bear tracker is a foot shift and being able to select a gear and stay in that gear has saved my ass more than once when stuck. Thank Lord baby Jesus for a selectable 2nd gear. When your out on your own a foot shift is nice. I wish Yamaha would bring them back.
