The alternate scene of Harry’s redemption is so much better. He sees a broken photograph of him, Peter, and MJ and it snaps him out of it. There’s no butler to come along to reveal the truth to him, because he already knew the truth- he was just suppressing it because of his loyalty to his father. But when he sees the picture, and realizes MJ is in trouble he forgives Peter on his own accord and decides to help. So much simpler and more powerful.

How have they STILL not discovered or talked about who the actor playing Bernard the butler is and why he’s so bad at acting?!? This is their second IN REVIEW of this film! Bernard is played by the father of late & brilliant actor BILL PAXTON (RIP). Raimi was good friends with the PAXTONS and cast JOHN PAXTON as the tiny role of Bernard in the first Spider-Man film. By the 3rd film he was losing concentration as he aged and his acting deteriorated accordingly. He died 4 years after this film, his last role was in Raimi’s Oz film. He’s terrible but after your second watch of this I am shocked NO ONE discovered this piece of trivia considering how confused everyone is about him and his performance?! lol

I don't think there's as much wrong with this movie as people like to pretend there is. Sam Raimi is an auteur who has a prominent sense of humour. Most of the stuff that people complain about is so obviously meant to be funny but they miss the point. Harry disappearing behind the car going past is weird until you realise he is hiding under the table/window and you see the guy behind staring at him. The strut down the street with funky music playing and the finger guns while every woman looks disgusted? Hilarious. The lines like "find us some shade" and "dig on this" are hilarious because the venom is corrupting Peter to the point where he is a total joke. All of that humour builds until the rug is pulled out from under you when he hits MJ.

17:55 -- Oh, that's just MJ's way of roasting Pete for not showing her his mangled scooter to reinforce the good alibi that went absolutely nowhere, driving up to a BROADWAY performance of "The Importance of Being Earnest" in a fucking getaway car that had been involved in a crime that probably involved SEVERAL intersections less than half an hour ago, and having LEFT the crime scene, just to pull up to a fucking cop and not give a SINGLE fuck doing it, because the entire drive over, he wasn't even TRYING to come up with a justification. Even Bethesda made fun of them by getting it right in Skyrim with the Sven Osborn and Faendal Parker quest in Riverwood. Instead of being like, "Yeah, Parker wrote you this horrible letter, what a dick!" You could say, "Yo, Harry just gave me this WEIRD letter and told me to tell you that it's from Parker, but it's not." See what I mean? It's not the exact same situation, because YOU'RE in Mary Jane's shoes, but they're talking about some chick that's named after an STD.

Which means Bernard knew for half a decade and didn't say shit.

Hot take. Every individual villain of Spider-Man 3 is amazing. Like yeah, the writing for Venom (and Eddy) is pretty garbo don't get me wrong, but the design and aesthetic they chose for Venom in the closing battle is absolutely fantastic. Harry's story was obviously jipped and deserved more attention, but I feel like regardless of the movie it took place in it still would've been rough primarily due to Franco's ROUGH acting which was probably caused via writing let's be real. I have no comment about Sand Man, Thomas Haden is the gem in the rough that is this movie in my opinion. This movie should've been half Peter VS Harry with a better ending where Peter tells Harry not the random fuckin' butler, then half Peter VS Sand Man where Harry comes in and helps at the end and maybe kills himself while turning on Peter 'cause of the Goblin Gas that made Willem lose his mind or something. Venom should've had it's own movie, Spider-Man 4, where they flesh out that origin story more and lead up to Peter being bad instead of just being bad in a snap and dancing.

I'm not going to lie, I didn't hate Spider-Man 3. I felt bad because the studio pressured Raimi into including Venom. I don't know how far that goes or what the whole storyline was... but if there's anything in this movie that set off my highly refined bullshit detector, it was the fact that Sandman literally has no purpose in the story at all . Don't get me wrong, his story isn't bad, it just stuck out like a sore thumb for me, because it seems like they just retconned the Uncle Ben thing to include this guy just to give him a reason to BE in the movie. I didn't think Sandman's "I'm not a bad person, I've just had bad luck," story was relevant at all, with people treating him like shit while he legit isn't trying to hurt anybody for most of the movie, because his entire thing was an ACCIDENT. His flaw isn't one of unchecked blind rage, he didn't go on a shooting spree, he just accidentally shot Uncle Ben. Personally, I'd have taken Venom completely out, left Eddie Brock and the Symbiote in this story and have the "I want you to kill Peter Parker" scene to be nearer to the climax of the movie where the symbiote bonds with Eddie, have the Bite-The-Camera effect, but NEVER MENTION HIM FOR THE REST OF THE MOVIE - because he wouldn't be relevant until the NEXT one. Maybe it's just that I'm an kind of an insomniac, but I've always thought it would be more nteresting if they used TG's Venom to kick off a *second trilogy* of Raimi's Spider-Man movies more loosely focused around the symbiote story with Venom and Carnage, etc. Please don't hate me for this, but if I'm being completely honest, the whole Emo Jazz Bully Peter Parker scene where he just goes from 0 to Full Pete Wentz in 3 minutes flat ALSO makes a lot of sense. It IS cheesy, and it IS cringey, but it's not for no reason. And it doesn't undermine any of the dark themes. In fact, it's great storytelling. It's supposed to be silly, but it also works within its own juxtaposition. 1 - Dylan Baker's Dr. Connors gave a great explanation of the symbiote and established its characteristics. He tells you everything you need to know, and it does sound scary, but it didn't feel like an exposition dump because he's a COLLEGE PROFESSOR, his entire job is to give exposition. He'd be doing exactly that whether he was talking to a person or a tape recorder. 2 - But it's Peter fucking Parker. This dude doesn't have a vindictive bone in his body, the reason he defaults to WTF is because that's literally the DARKEST THING ABOUT PETER'S PERSONALITY.
@reflectionist2 жыл бұрын
What sucks is that people kind of cling to this idea that Spider-Man 3 is bad because it has TOO MANY VILLAINS in it, because Batman Begins came out two years prior with even MORE villains than Spider-Man 3. Which had Zsasz, Flass, Falcone, Scarecrow, and Ra's Al Ghul. It's not that there are too many villains, it's that there are too many plot threads that have fuckall to do with each other. I'm sorry, man, I know that Sam Raimi was all about Sandman and that Venom was a studio directive that Sam wasn't really interested in as a character. But I think this story lives or dies on the entire Symbiote / Black Suit concept. Save Venom for a future installment (but keep Eddie), and give Flint Marko a reason to be in Peter's life that isn't just preposterously moronic and needlessly retconned for a story beat that only muddies up the thematic center of the story. Dude straight up Ray Rice'd Mary Jane, damn near killed his best friend twice, and went out of his way to humiliate Eddie Brock, but Flint Marko just kind of... shows up... on accident. It's all there. Peter and Mary Jane - anger, going too far, how to forgive Peter and Harry Osborn - anger, going too far, how to forgive Peter and Eddie Brock - anger, going too far, how to get religion Peter and Flint Marko - OOPS
