@@rafaelarcas942 I assume, you're not a native English speaker like me? I can give you a few tips. Look for "signal words" as I call them to learn how to distinct accents apart. British and American accents are fairly easy to distinguish. Listen to a English saying "water" and an American saying "water". The English often say "wohte" (IPA: [ˈwɔːtə]), while Americans say something like "wadr" (IPA: [ˈwɒːt̬ər]). They flap the t and make it into a sound a bit like a d. Same goes for words like better, butter, utter, writing... Also the a sound is often pronounced differently: take the word "mask" for example. British use a "aaahhh" sound: "maaahhsk" (IPA: [mɑːsk]). Americans tend to use an ä/ae sound: "mäsk" (IPA: [mæsk]). Same goes for words like fast, dance, bath, grass. Maybe search for a dictionary with sound examples online, like the oxford dictionary or the Longman pronunciation dictionary. There you can listen to the differences! Once you've actually understood the differences, it really opens up new ways of understanding English :D

I was talking about Standard British English which is non-rhotic (you don't pronounce the r at the end of a word, just in some occasions like a linking-r). So, if you're pronouncing the r all the time, you're probably speaking a rhotic dialect, which is very uncommon for English dialects because most of them are non-rhotic (the only ones I know atm are Scottish English and Irish English). It's very hard to describe the differences in pronunciation without using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) because English is so inconsistent in its pronunciation and writing of words (cough, plough, though, through, thorough are all written with "ough" but all pronounced differently). Getting really deep into English dialects would be a bit too much for a comment section on KZbin because there are soooo many dialects. I mean, in Britain alone are hundreds of accents and dialects & I didn't even mention all the other English speaking countries on our planet, which all have a different pronunciation of English. Therefore, let's limit the focus here on Standard British English and General American like most dictionaries do. ;) I'll change the pronunciation above into "wohte" (hoping that they understand it's just a Schwa and not an actual e) and add the IPA pronunciation for those people who CAN read IPA, which is unfortunately not a lot.
