There's a subtle detail I realized about the Captain America PSAs. Right before the War Criminal line, I was wondering why the school was showing the PSAs when they showcase a criminal. It would be like showing old PE videos with OJ Simpson. So I was glad that War Criminal line was there to kind of address it and some speculation that the state requires it. But later it occurred to me that there's a better explanation for why that school is still showing Cap PSAs. The principal is the grandson of a Howling Commando and his hero worship is the reason he insists on still using those videos. He probably doesn't buy the Cap is a War Criminal talk, so then I wondered exactly how the Cap becoming a fugitive thing appears to the general public, and I assume that with the Internet there's lots of rumors floating around about what actually happened and that Cap probably has a ton of supporters who think he got a raw deal.
@Vader470007 жыл бұрын
He's wearing his costume from the first Avengers movie so they were probably made shortly after the Battle of New York. It's another subtle detail that implies what Cap was doing to re-integrate into the world after being thawed out. Like they point out in the video, he was back to doing "propaganda" movies, in this case the PSAs. He's not quite sure how to return to normalcy, and he ends up making videos for the government, just like they had him doing in WW2. I assume he got tired of that and took on a bigger role within SHIELD. What's cool is this arc plays out until Avengers Age of Ultron when he says he finally feels like he's home, before it all gets turned upside down in Civil War.

Cap, I have the exact same take on MJ. After seeing it once, she seemed to appear randomly and serve no purpose to the story. I couldn't get a handle on her character. But on second viewing, it's clear that MJ has a huge crush on Peter and is stalking him through the whole movie. All those "random" moments are her attempts to get his attention. It's so cleverly done - and so subtle - that it's easy to miss the first time around.

This movie was everything I wanted in a Spider-man movie. I find it funny how this movie just screams "you havent seen Spider-man of screen yet," Holland is perfection, RDJ was fantastic as always ( I love how much Tony has grown up), Keaton is the BEST MCU villain and before I forget Michael Giachinno's score is one of the best in any superhero film, both Spidey and Vulture's theme are excellent pieces of music. Also Watts' pulled so many iconic moments from the comics and made it his own although my only gripe is that the pacing is a little slow at times but other than that- this was just a thrilling film

My fantasy is for them to mirror the third act twist with Vulture as Liz's dad in the next movie, but have Peter open the door to Michelle's house, and her dad is J Jonah Jameson. So she would be Michelle Jameson...or MJ. (I was joking about this when I first said it, but I really want this to happen now)

Don’t even have that be a twist, that’s a cool idea to have up front to the audience.

The great thing about Civil War is Peter explains the whole thing with Uncle Ben in a realistic way. By Civil War he's had his powers and been hero-ing for only a few months...SO PETER DOESN'T WANT TO GET INTO SUCH A FRESH TRAGEDY.

I might be in the minority but i liked the inclusion of Karen. The "you should kiss her" line was genuinely funny to me. Having two confidants for peter would really continue to make him engaging. I also think it's smart integration of self narration. Also i read an interview with the director and they might be considering not including uncle Ben at all in this continuity. We could have a completely fresh take on the origin. That genuinely excites me.

We have had enough angst in Spider-Man movies! Besides, this Spidey's series is in the MCU, which has a light-hearted tone for the most part. I really liked the tone of Homecoming, you can have good drama while still being light and breezy tone wise. Spider-Man needs to change things up by this point anyway, people can only take so much of the crying and funerals.

If they do The Chameleon in one of these movies, it would be cool if he was just a common criminal who recovered the face-changing mask from The Winter Soldier from the wreckage of the triskellion. I think that'd be cool and in line with the Vulture/Tinkerer/Shocker gang in this movie.

In terms of the timeline issues, it did bother me a lot at first after I had seen the movie (though while watching the movie I was so engrossed in the characters and story that I didn't care). I think the movies for the most part have been ambiguous in whether they have taken place in real time or not. However, what pushes me to think not is that even though Iron Man 3 takes place in 2012, Iron Man 2 takes place six months after the end of the first Iron Man. From that point on, it makes much more sense to say that the first phase of movies would take place all around the same couple of years and for the Battle of New York to take place like in early 2010, which would be just around 8 years before the events of Homecoming (since that film likely takes place in the fall of 2017 since Peter's probably in his sophomore year of high school). It even makes sense with what is said in Civil War because if Homecoming takes place two months after Civil War, then it would still make sense that the end of Iron Man took place a little over 8 years before that like Vision states. Thunderbolt Ross even has a line stating that the Avengers "for the past four years have operated with unlimited power and no supervision", and I originally interpreted that as being from the Battle of New York up until then. However, one could say that since SHIELD/HYDRA being taken down in The Winter Soldier takes place in late 2013 or early 2014, then that's the time he's talking about because SHIELD was their supervision in a way, and so it could mean that there were almost 4 years in between HYDRA being taken down and present. I think it's honestly open to interpretation, but with the evidence that other films are not taking place precisely the year they're produced like Iron Man 2, I'm willing to go with that notion, even if it means adjusting my frame of reference a little as I watch the other films. However, I do think that Feige or whoever originally had most of the movies take place in the year they were released in Phase 1, but there are so many more interconnected characters and stories now than there were before that maybe they eventually scrapped that idea, so I think that may be where the discrepancy lies. I've only been thnking this through so much because it was the only major issue I had with the movie and otherwise enjoyed it so much! Sorry for the novel-length post, I just thought maybe my take would help the Captain and everyone else out! Thanks for all your input and great job on the spoilercast!!! :) PS: I also realized that even if Peter being the little kid with the helmet at the end of Iron Man 2 was a bit of an afterthought, the Stark Expo was held in Flushing, which is literally 15 minutes away from Queens, meaning that it's very possible that Peter as a little kid could've been there during the end of Iron Man 2 at the expo.

- I also didn't like the Avengers suit at the end. I could see it maybe popping up in a fight with Thanos or someone more powerful, but unless it's the black suit then I don't need a change. - The timeline stuff is ridiculously messy. So strange that they did that. Because Civil War is DEFINITELY in 2016. And we flash forward a few months. There's so much evidence for and against different explanations. Best to be ignored. - Nobody mentioned how Stark sold Avengers tower. Who could possibly by that? ...Osborn! Has to be. Or if by some miracle they got the F4 rights in secret like they did with Spidey, I could see it being the Baxter building.

I find casting Ganke as Ned makes no sense. In the original books Peter had no high school friends, Ned Leeds was a rival at the Bugle. If they were so in need of the diversity card use Randy Robertson as his High School friend. That also helps to tie the universe to the Daily Bugle and further Peter Parkers story. Now we don't have Ned, Miles won't have Ganke if they ever get to him. Also not a fan of the MJ thing, not a fan of Liz Allen being related to The Vulture in spite of that really good twist. Also just a small nitpick but WHY does Betty Brant look like Gwen? Same hair style and color, same black thing in her hair. This smashing and cramming of characters into other characters is annoying to me. If they focus on the supporting cast they'll have trouble when certain characters are nothing like they need to be for specific comic book scenes.

Kevin Feige has come out and said that Michelle's surname is Jones, thus, she is not Mary Jane. They could go down the direction of Michelle becoming this universe's MJ, or they could later decide to bring in Mary Jane Watson herself.

Never understood the complaint that it's hard to do spideys inner monologue in film. Just add an echoing effect that makes it seem like we're hearing his thoughts. My problem with them making Michelle the Mary Jane of the MCU is that she's not Mary Jane; she's a completely different character! Right down to the fact that she has a different name!! I cringed a little when she came out and said her nickname was "MJ". It came off to me as a weird, half-assed attempt at fan service in the same vein as making John Blake's legal name Robin in DKR. There was just no need for it. They've given us a great original character in Michelle, so why try and make her Mary Jane when she's not?
@Styleshift887 жыл бұрын
Frank Short - I originally disliked this film when I saw it, but now it's my favorite Spider-Man film. Think about it. They never gave us full names for a reason. Liz really had more in common with early Betty Brant than Liz Allen. Classic Liz is a d***. In the film, Liz is older than Pete and he makes a decision that is a good decision but ultimately causes a rift between them because of someone who she is related to (Her brother with the gambling problem.) Betty Brant was in the film but looked like Gwen Stacey and did not act like either character. I think that John Blake and Michelle are incomparable because one is just a lame attempt at giving the non-comic book reading audience an easter egg and the other actually serves a purpose for story telling. If they told you that she was MJ. If she acted like MJ than all of us who are interested in that pairing would than start looking forward to that pairing and the stories that are involved with that pairing. Edit - If Liz was named Betty Brant in this film, more people would have seen that twist coming. The same thing literally happened in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon except it was Liz's brother The Molten Man.

Exactly. I quite liked The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and was pretty alone in my opinion, lol. When it comes to films, or ANY art form -- by its very nature -- it is subjective; one's personal opinion. This is inevitable. It could be argued that art which stands the test of time, and is considered a classic, for example, The Wizard of Oz, the works of Shakespeare, etc., show a more "factual" evidence of quality. That said, of course there are people who don't like Shakespeare, lol.

More moments of Adrian as a family man. I kind of wish for a series that shows the rise of Adrian's empire between those eight years like Breaking Bad. I'm hoping for more deleted scenes with Vulture for those reasons and because I loved him and he IS my favorite MCU villain. I just loved how small scale it all was.
