FUN FACT: Tobey Maguire did the "tray catch" scene when M.J slipped without any special effects. It took him 156 attempts in a 16 hour-day shoot to catch the items on the tray for real.

Imagine having so much time on set to do that. You hear from more recent projects that it’s all GO GO GO. Get the scene, wrap and move on. It’s all fast paced, efficient and rigorous. Back in 2002 they allowed bro 16 hours of film, crew, cast and extras time for a 5-6 second trick for the film. How times change eh?!

In fact, the role was initially offered to none other than his bestfriend "Leonardo DiCaprio" but he had to turn it down because he was filming "Catch me if you can" with Tom Hanks, and he was the one who suggested they give Tobey the role. And as it became Tobey's big hit ever and our greatest and most fav. Spiderman.

When this movie first came to Pay Per View my mom ordered this and the first X-Men on Christmas Eve after I went to sleep and taped them to a VHS and then spent all night making custom VHS cases for both of them. Tobey Maguire is the greatest Spider-Man of all time. Also, Willem Defoe insisted on doing all his own stunts, so that's actually him in the Goblin suit. He had the costume designers remake the suit to fit him specically. His performance as Norman/Green Goblin is God tier!

The green Goblin made a very good point on the bridge scene when he said " This is Why only fools are heroes because you never know when some lunatic is gonna come along with a sadistic Choice" then he made Spider-Man choose between saving MJ or the Children , and that's why Peter Parker had to put MJ in the friend zone because the life of a superhero always comes with hard choices, lots of sacrifices to make, and most of all greater responsibility to have. That's the true meaning of Uncle Ben Quote " With great power comes great responsibility".

The reason Bruce Campbell played the wrestling announcer was because him and Sam Raimi are really close friends, and Sam Raimi is the director and writer of both Evil Dead and the Spider-Man Trilogy. Also during the famous upside down kiss Tobey Maguire started accidentally getting water-boarded because of the rain going in his nose and not being able to breathe while kissing MJ. The first one is a total classic really glad you enjoyed it, have a good one take care!

I always preferred this Spiderman because him letting that guy go unraveled the events with his uncle and made him want to help people. They showed his origin story here and made Peter feel just like a regular kid caught in all this. It teaches you that your actions or inaction have consequences.

I love that Ash picked up on the joy in Ben's face when he sees Peter one last time in his dying moments. At least the last thing Peter said to him was "I'm here, Uncle Ben" 😢❤ I'm not sure, but it looks like Ben lifts his hand slightly so Peter can hold it before he dies. It's like he forgave Peter for his earlier rebuff, without saying a word.

What makes their last conversation more heartbreaking is that it had no "deeper" context...it was literally Peter showed up...Uncle Ben dies...Peter never had the chance to tell him what he meant to him which makes it, ironically, more down to earth! Sometimes when last conversations happen in films they seem forced and unrealistic because they manage to act out an entire monologue whilst one of them is dying! And sometimes you have a last conversation with a person without even knowing it until it's too late! Let's face it! Peter was lucky he ran into his uncle at that time! He could've easily turned the other way when he finished wrestling! I HOPE TO GOD ASH AND HANNAH FINISH THIS TRILOGY BECAUSE IT IS BY FAR THE BEST SPIDERMAN EVER! ABSOLUTELY NO CONTEST! Superman 1978 was the gold standard for super hero movies, and then Sam Raimi's Spiderman arrived, claiming the throne. The sequel is even better. So glad you recognized Bruce Campbell. Another fun fact: The car that Uncle Ben drives is Ash's, Olds 88, from the Evil Dead films. That car makes an appearance in almost all of Sam Raimi's movies.

Popular but controversial opinion: this is legit my favorite Spider-Man movie ever along with my favorite Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Plz don’t @ me. I (faintly) remember watching it as a kid on DVD (which is badly scratched now) and kept playing the main menu over and over again. But the part that was most imprinted in my brain of the movie for me was the upside-down kiss scene mostly due to the image of it on the back of the DVD cover and I would IMMEDIATELY recognize it (case in point: Shrek 2) Bless you two for reacting to this masterful adaptation of our friendly neighborhood arachnid hero! I’ll never forget when I first saw this movie. 2002, I was in daycare and the teachers would play this for us once a week. Not too long after, my mom got me my own TV and VHS player. And I would always rewind the opening titles just so I can hear the music. Danny Elfman is the reason I love film, soundtracks. Ash, Hannah, thank you for making me feel like a kid again

He's also Sam Raimis good luck charm he's in like all he's movies. He's the Usher at the theatre in spiderman 2 and he's the pizza ball vendor in Dr strange 2, which is also a Sam Raimi movie. If I remember right, there was something about him being revealed as Mysterio in the never made Spiderman 4, but I can't remember if that was a rumour or confirmed, I feel like I saw storyboards

I grew up with this movie and it's my favourite superhero film of all time. Fun fact Ash, the scene where he catches the food on the tray was done practically. No CGI or special effects, they filmed it for real. I think it took them over 100 takes to finally get it. Also, you guys have got to watch Arcane now that it's finished. Hannah in particular would love it

As a kid, my bro and I would watch that movie and part 2 so many times. Once it finished, we would rewind it in the vcr and play it again. We would climb our grandmas walls 😂. This movie truly changed a generation of kids imagination. We all wanted to be spiderman. 😊

the Spider-Man saga, starring Tobey Maguire is the best MCU's trilogy ever, then you two guys just brought me nostalgia back by reacting to this movie.
