it's actually up and down strumming, what you are hearing :) i tried to do it ramones-style, down-down, but my right hand got tired and my timing sucked, so I gave up on that idea :)

Johnny B Rollin Yeah I feel you, I had the same problem with down-down strumming, but eventually my arm got used to it. Anyways you should try to learn it, that's the proper way of playing punk rock guitar and it sounds way more heavy and awesome than down-up strumming ;)
