Woof, when people talk about "environmental storytelling", THIS is what they're talking about! In the projector room that was locked, on the wall says "Remember your motto," which hints that one of the guardians is setting the messages and in league with the Tower Dweller. I think you're right, and her necklace was the symbols to lock and unlock the door. And the title of the chapter being "The Lemurian Vampire" and how we know the golden idol works means it must be GIVING the life energy back to someone, extending their life. We also got a few little tidbits about how people had fairly random lifespans in the village? Which pointed to the idea of the golden idol being used not just on the sentinels and having life being given back to some of the villagers. But gosh, it sure required paying a LOT of attention and making some leaps based on narrative logic and not deductive logic.

One of the kids has some teaching materials with him that lists “bad questions”, questions you should never ask. One of those questions is “how old are you?”. Remember who was in charge of the children. She basically indoctrinated all other villagers from birth to never question her age.

The Case of the Golden Idol and the DLC was recently released on the Netflix Games app, and there they’ve implemented a ‘check answers’ button for the fill-the-blanks, which made it much easier! I worked out there was something suspicious about Lavu Mata in the scene where Zubiri gives her the incantation to use on the tower dweller, but when you go and look at the blown up dweller in the last scene, you can see she used a different incantation.

For the last DLC, The Lemurian Vampire, the crucial point was to take note of random items appearing and disappearing from the people's inventories. The promise cubes and Lavu's necklace were such examples. SPOILERS AHEAD! Lavu's necklace and the worn-out buttons on the projection room door tell you Lavu has access to the projection room. The sentinels go to the tower and banish the Tower Dweller (by asking the Tower Dweller to reduce their lifespan) when there is a written message on the wall. And now you know that Lavu has access to the projection room. This tells you it is Lavu who regularly sends sentinels to reduce their lifespan. The ancient language guidebook in the projection room in the last chapter tells you Lavu knows how to give and take lifespan. Then the player connects all this info and deduces Lavu is stealing life from others to extend her life, and all this "Preserve ancient ways" or killing Tissa was to keep the farce going. Jayan has a rope in his inventory because he traded a "rock" for rope. You can see the "rock" in question in Albert's inventory (a ruby stone). Then in the next scene, he doesn't have the rope in his inventory anymore. Lavu is tied with vines so the rope is not there. Then, if you search for the rope, you find it used in the empty prison hole.

I kind of gathered that _someone_ had to be absorbing the life energy the idol was sucking from these sentriels. After all, we know that the idol works by alternating taking and giving (red and blue gemstone, remember?). But I don't know if I could've guessed who it was that was controlling it either!

I thought albert killed oberon just because he got greedy and wanted the golden statue. Didnt expect oberon was very malicious like that. But the game still didnt explain where the idol comes from since xx just found it a long time ago

I’m late to this comment section but! In case someone else has the same question! It’s an example of the incredibly advanced magic and technology that the ancient Lemurian Empire had command of before their cultural downfall. Both the DLC and base game have snippets where people talk about it-for example in Albert Cloudsley’s journal entries about the local culture in The Spider of Lenka, and the first chapter of The Lemurian Vampire where Zubiri talks about “our cultural stagnation.” I think we’re intended to understand that before the empire fell, magical artifacts and technological marvels were commonplace in Lemurian society. The automaton that they call “Tower Dweller” is another example of this kind of cultural relic whose secrets have been forgotten. (It’s a clear parallel to the historical decline of the Khmer empire, who built amazing, technologically and agriculturally advanced urban centres like Angkor Wat during what the West might call the “Dark Ages.” Oversimplifying it, but: culturally, they still exist and continue to have a strong identity today, but the decline of the empire’s power also came with a population decline, and a move to a much more rural lifestyle. Much of the technological knowledge and craftsmanship that built the empire was “lost,” or more accurately, just declined from use. A similar thing happened in some parts of Europe with the fall of the Roman Empire.)

I don't think people intended it as a 'spoiler' honestly. It's implied fairly early on and the solution to the first part of that last puzzle needs you to realize it. It's why Gab had so much trouble on that part and ultimately had to look it up and remained confused about it. This epilogue, I never got the impression was intended as a 'big reveal' but more as a little gap filler of the three making the agreement, lays out everything from the whole game on one page to kinda bask in your work and the story, and to link to the DLCs. The final puzzle Gab finished at the end of the last stream does actually confirm the 'twist'. I understand it sucks, she would've realized it working this final part. But I think you are actually intended to have made that connection at least by the completion of the final puzzle and she was asking (to herself) why that part didn't make any sense and if she missed something, which she actually did. I think people were kinda trying to help complete that missed connection and weren't intentionally trying to spoil anything. Edit: I only say this because you can go to the last video and clearly see the comments mentioning this part and I wouldn't really want those people to catch flack for it. In this very particular instance, I think I was meant in good-faith to complete this big part of the story that had been missed and is generally understood by the end of that puzzle. I really love these games and love Gab. I can't imagine playing it with a big time game between segments, I'm sure that played a huge part in some of the confusion. P.S. Watching this after I had already finished the game, I saw a cool detail I missed before, which is that David Gorran uses the alias 'Ash Blair' at the inn, and Ash Blair is the brand of tobacco he smokes! I thought that was neat.

@@alousnamer I'm sure all of this is true and people did it in good faith, even, I would only say that since she has never verbally confirmed that she has figured that out, I would err on the side of caution and not mention it quite yet, if such a situation were to arise again. It may not be a spoiler at all if you had already worked it out as intended, but she hadn't, so without meaning to, people have spoiled it for her in this set of circumstances. I don't blame people for assuming she was at the level of knowledge they were at that point, but still, it was a spoiler for her, still.

You're not alone about the finale of The Lemurian Vampire DLC Chapter. I felt that the difficulty spike went waaaaay too high because there's so little scenarios for us to root through that demanded so much guessworks to even get everything right. Especially with the first "A Long Time Ago" story part that's maddeningly fussy about precise wordings. Took me forever to even get that right and that's without looking up any walkthroughs (I almost did, much to my personal shame). The finales of main game and Spider of Lanka chapter did far better jobs with presenting just enough info and scenario to have you reach those accurate conclusions and The Lemurian Vampire's finale really stumbled here. Even so, I very much enjoyed the hell out of the whole game and is looking forward to Rise of the Golden Idol game, which I totally wasn't expecting to be something that the developers would wanted to make.

I disagree and was pretty surprised to come to this comment section finding so many people express a difficulty spike. All of the information is there, and the story makes a lot of sense. It just takes a lot of analyzing and doubling back. I think looking at the 'thinking panel' screen too early might cause someone to want to fill in the gaps prematurely, and figure out a lot of information that way, thus leaving them confused. When, really, it should be ignored until you put together the scene in front of you completely. Doing that, the Lemurian Vampire makes a lot of sense.

Huh, I just noticed that the Lemurian Vampire act 3 is the only case in the game where nobody's dead or dying, unless you somehow count the Tower Dweller. Even in the epilogue there's a random corpse lying on the street.

I thought so at first too, but then I realized I was mentally rotating the thingy in the wrong direction. Let me try to explain. The piece in question looks like a handwritten 4. The correct answer is circled in pink and looks like part of a chair, standing on one leg, with a piece jutting upwards. 1. The top left segment of the 4 is the leg of the chair. 2. The bottom right segment of the 4 is the piece of the chair that's sticking upwards. 3. If we look at the 4 from underneath it, kinda through the paper if it makes sense, it's the same as looking at the chair piece from the left. 4. If we look at the 4 from the right side, we see kinda like a J. If we then turn the J 90 degrees clockwise it turns into an L, and it's the same L we see if we look at the chair from the right.

They should have difficulty settings where easy would do what you said and tell you how many are wrong, and hard tells you absolutely nothing….not even 2 or less. I would try to play on hard. My only issue with the game is that it becomes too tempting to brute force guess when you see 2 or less. Remove that option for those who don’t want it.

It took me awhile to get it aswell, nothing has been cut that's how the epilogue starts I think. it's just that upon seeing Edmund with the idol when the epilogue opens you kinda go "wth? I thought he was dead!" Then you read about his plan to start a new political party and you realise he was Lazarus all along. it's just that when Gab started the epilogue and saw him she confirmed she already knew that reveal. Hope that helps :)

the game is set in an alternate universe 18th century, the lemurians are that universe's counterpart to India and the seven seas trading company being their version of the East India trading company. The game is considerably less racist than they could have been for historical accuracy, so I don't know where you got that idea of this game being "so racist" from

The demo for the sequel ‘rise of the golden idol’ just came out on steam. It’s 4 short snippets of this gameplay. There is ‘duck detective: the secret salami’ (which gab played if you are looking for vods) if you don’t care about it being a good mystery or difficult than that one is cute and silly but very short. The absolute best game in this vain is ‘return of the Obra Dinn’ which is sort of the gold standard for all investigative/puzzle games.
