Thank you! I fixed mine a couple of years ago. Here is possibly an easier way to access the valve: 1. Loosen the top nut around the hard tube 2. Loosen the nut next to the valve block slightly 3. See if the hard tube is flush with the valve shell - if yes, you can turn the valve block so that the valve swings up 4. Hold the top half of the valve shell and loosen the bottom half 5. There you have access to the rubber valve for cleaning or replacement. Older batches had rubber valves that could lose elasticity quickly over time; newer valves should be silicone and more durable. I tried to link a picture but KZbin kept deleting my comment because of it...

Thank you for the video. My AS196 was heating up quite badly and I didn’t know what was the problem until I saw your video. The pressure release valve was spewing out more about 5 seconds of air after the compressor stopped. Following your video I open the no return valve which has a corroded ball bearing, cleaned it up and put everything back together. Now the compressor runs warm but not incredibly hot as before. You are a genius!

Thank you for your video, this helped me fix my AS-196A as well. I think I had several issues. One of the red valve plates had a corrosion in the metal which kept the little rubber valve open. Then I also had a wet non-return valve, I didn't have a sponge in it, so I cut myself a little piece which for now did the trick. Also my solonoid valve wasn't screwed in thight, solved that. After checking and tightening all the nuts. My compressor now shuts off after reaching 4 bar instead of blowing off all pressure. Plus my compressor also doesn't blow off anymore when you turn it off. Next to that I made a little field mod, I added a little piece of string to the blow-off valve so I can release the air in the tank after I'm done.

The check valve seems to be a general issue with most of the chinese airbrush compressors with more than one Piston (solenoid valve) . The "sponge-trick" was a good advice! I fixed my AS48a this way. Without the sponge it only was a question of time to run again into this problem. Now it seems that it does the trick. Thanks

New compressor (Fengda FD-189), exactly the same problem. Clearing the "mushroom ring" as they call the rubber valve in their manual worked. Also it leaked (little) air before and that stopped now too. This design is a real weakness of these compressors.
@spidiq86 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. I've not come across this kind of problem on a shipped new one. It's usually caused by blowback of particulates that aren't filtered out adequately or from corrosion after condensation build up in the tank etc. They should really be a ball/spring valve made of something like brass but many are made of steel and corrode themselves. Good to know the manual covers it though.
@inzane12605 жыл бұрын
One can always modify and install a ball/spring valve. The only issue is obtaining quality parts. These compressors are based on a design that has been in service for decades. Manufacturers no longer sell parts in the open market. I heard there is a supplier in the UK that carries replacement components. The surface where the rubber valve meets the plate should be smooth for a excellent seal. If you notice the paint they sprayed on is bumpy. This is one of the reasons out of the box these compressors are back filling into the cylinder and not holding air in the line.
@a.gerard32013 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your very interesting video to be able to troubleshoot your compressor. In your video you say at the end that you are going to look for a better quality valve to replace. Please, if you have found the valve, you can say where you have found it. Thanks Greetings from Spain

Mine just lost pressure from the screw in pst valve but kicks back in when tap it with the screwdriver so thinking it's sticky or clogged? There's no sound from compressor till I hit that valve then it fills the tank but won't then refill till it's hit again! It's not been used much and only 6 months old I striped it down today saw nothing so I don't know? But when I tapped it like I used to do with my mass air flow sensors on my cars to check of sticky it kicked the compressor in and filled up but it's a single tank unit it's a like screw valve into the heat sink unit!

I did find one for sale on eBay but ended up not needing it, the original one is still working. Try cleaning yours first.
@romulusmare4 жыл бұрын
@@spidiq8 thank you. opened it, and cleaned it all as best as I could, then re-assembled. The metal pipe connecting the tank, has two screws over some rubber o-rings, which were pretty old and one broke at each end. So I needed to replace them. Quite fiddly to put it back together. It works, and I can say the leak is much much diminished, cannot hear it, but if I keep finger over solenoid valve evacuation, in 3-4 seconds you can hear it as pressure builds under the finger.
@spidiq84 жыл бұрын

@spidiq85 жыл бұрын
Do you have a 2 way switch? If so, position 2 is continuous, if not, then either air is escaping or it's not registering the pressure, if the latter though, it should eventually struggle to pump before the tank pressure is exceeded as these compressor pumps are relatively low powered.
