Good points about balancing pressure if transferring to a keg under pressure. A lot of helpful points to keep in mind when I start using mine,

I should have watched this before I did my first unitank kegging earlier today! :p Great walkthrough, Khris! Got some really good tips like filling the whole corny. I've been fooling around with a weight etc and haven't been filling it completely. Cheers, mate!

great video.. I use a spunding valve on my kegs for pressurized transfer from my Ss Brewtech Unitank. This works very well for me. I have known full weights of all my kegs which i use to determine when they are full. Your method is easy and one i may try..... Nice job

Thanks for the video. Stupid question: How do you know when the keg is full?

@@silveraven1 In the video, he shows it is full when beer squirts out of the loosened PRV.

you weight a full keg prior to transfer, about 53lbs +/- 2lbs, then you put your empty one on the scale as you transfer, when you hit your full weight then obviously stop.

I also like to add, I like to recycle my co2 by having a gas jumper from the empty keg back to the fermenter

Slightly off topic....any advice on bottling off the tank with carbonated beer using a blichmann beergun. I get more than 1 keg and bottle the remainder however I have massive foaming issues. My last hope is to chill the bottles which is what I am going to do with my next brew but would love a second opinion from you

Thanks for the video! As far as filling a keg of carbonated beer all the way until beer comes out the PRV, would this take place of purging the empty keg prior to filling? My current method involves filling the keg completely with starsan water and pushing it all out before pushing beer into keg. I usually fill to the welded line at top of keg. I may consider filling all the way to out of prv if this is a method of eliminating the dispensing star san out of keg prior. What do you think?

How I purge the oxygen from my line is first pressurize with co2 and purge o2 from the keg I’m filling. Then connect the liquid QD to allow co2 to flow out before connecting the tri clamp. Boom! No o2

What is the size of the beer line and barb? Standard serving size?

How do like the penguin chiller. I have the cooler setup but I can't get it cold enough to cold crash and quick carb.
@ItsaBrewDay5 жыл бұрын
So far it's cooling ability is unbelievable. It took the glycol mix from room temp to 28F in about 10 minutes. When I connected my tank, it took about 2 hours to crash it to 32 degrees and kept it there with no issues for a week before I kegged off the tank. There are a couple of big flaws i'm working through, but it's more with the design and functionality than the cooling power.

What do you recommend if the batch is a bit too small to overflow the corny?

Hook co2 up to your keg and then bleed out air at the top a few times.

hi do you have a link for the stuff in the bottle?
@ItsaBrewDay5 жыл бұрын
It's 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. You'll find it in the first aid section of any drug store. This is different from Ethyl or Rubbing alcohol.

@@ItsaBrewDay and it's better to use? I just use a strong star San ? Does it matter if you get any in ya beer?
@ItsaBrewDay5 жыл бұрын
@@craftbeeruk279 Five Star Chemicals, maker of StarSan, does not recommend keeping mixed Starsan in a bottle or anywhere for any extended period of time. I emailed them directly to get their recommendation on storage, concentration, and contact time for beer spoiling bacteria. 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is extremely effective as a spray, requiring only seconds, and doesn't go bad. It's the go to for commercial breweries for a spray application. Unless you're dumping it into the beer, just a fine mist spray or three won't impact beer quality. This podcast has some information about IPA, but it's mostly focused on iodophor. However, the paper they are talking about went into a lot of detail about contact time and kill rates across several organisms with IPA. masterbrewerspodcast.com/096-efficacy-of-sanitizers-in-the-brewery
