Another layer to this is what someone brought up somewhere else SPOILERS (since I recognise not everyone who’s seen this clip has seen the episode. Also part of the finale is spoiled, so please finish the show first) This person mentioned how Ed leaving was a demonstration of her maturity, realising that it was just her time to leave the group. This is in contrast to Spike who’s stuck in his past as you said, and Faye who returned when she had nowhere to go, only to return to find in emotional shock and frustration how someone who became family to her is going on a suicide mission. Ed’s leave is another gut punch technically attributable to her father on Spike’s flaw in relentlessly holding on to what’s gone by.
@cu80659 ай бұрын
@@MageBurgerabsolutely true. each main member of the bebop crew is in some form or another stuck in the past, ed included. i think her young age is such a great contrast to the rest of the group because she’s naturally more motivated to get out of the places she’s’ stuck in her life, and she still has a long time to live. that’s why she moves on first. the others are older and much more hardened and cynical, with little to no excitement looking forward to their personal futures besides getting enough money to eat. they don’t easily see ways out of their lifestyles.

He is a very large powerfully built man who knows his strengths. You don't pick fighting style based on how you feel you pick one based on your body type and lifestyle. When you are bigger and stronger than everyone and most peoples kicks can't match your punches there is no reason to move quickly and dodge when you can tank the hits, catch you opponet off guard who is used to seeing results with such hits and crush their will with so much brute force they feel like a child fighting their father. The thing that bugs me about the "there's always someone better" thing is that it is rooted in the mindset that power scales only linearly, which is inaccurate. Different people have different strengths and weaknesses, as do different fighting styles. Spike's first enemy in the series, Asimov, embodied the element of fire. He was violent, aggressive, proactive, and emotional. Appledelhi here embodies earth, slow to move but unstoppable, always stable, massive, barely even moving when attacked. And we all know what element Spike embodies. In feng shui, water quenches fire, and earth restricts water as with a dam or canal. Their martial arts styles are completely dominated by their characteristic element, and the outcomes of the fights are never in question. Asimov's violence is easily turned aside and damped by intuitive motions that flow faster than conscious thought. But when Spike fights Appledelhi, Spike has to take the initiative but all his superfast attacks splash uselessly, countered without any motion at all. The elements go deeper than their fighting style. Appledelhi is obsessed with not only the planet Earth, but the actual ground, creating maps to bring stability to a chaotic world, undeterred by the impossibility of his goal. Asimov uses a stimulant drug that's applied via a red-tinged smoke. The fact that Spike is the main protagonist is a clue that this isn't a typical heroic battler show. The leader of the group in almost every team anime is associated with the element of fire. (look at the near-contemporary Outlaw Star, which very obviously matches every one of the five heroes with an element.)

It is her. The point of his dialogue was basically just that he couldn't be bothered to care who is child is or even if he really has one at all. And then he just leaves her behind again like nothing.

One of the things I liked about Cowboy Bebop was the sense of danger that the main cast was in, unlike many other anime where heroes can't seem to die or they just power up and defeat their foe. Occasionally Spike would run into someone who was just as good at fighting as he was if not sometimes better. Shows where the main characters are skilled or capable but not the best and they are quite mortal tend to produce the best story lines and have a lot of memorable moments. And yeah Ed's dad was really good, but damn Andy gave Spike a run for his money.

I love how Ed's father sees the giant ship plowing towards him and instantly knows exactly who's behind it.
@vveisshardt10 ай бұрын
i don't believe he knew who was on board bebop until he saw ed poke herself out when it stopped. i believe his confidently standing still as the ship approached conveys his incredibly keen instincts and reflexes we just saw on display (making spike, a seasoned martial artist, look like a childish nuisance). he's at a level where he could instinctively gauge by the relative size/mass of the ship, the distance it was approaching from, and its relative deceleration, and basically had total confidence it would come to a stop before hitting him. spike, on the other hand, sees it and runs instantly because, as skilled as he is, his instincts are nowhere near the same level. this is just my two cents of course! it's open for interpretation as is most anything.

one of many reasons this series was so unique; complete subversion of the "power scaling" issue...which was achieved by solidly rooting bebop's world as our own, just logically carried forward a few generations. i don't believe we'll have those hyper gates nor have colonized mars this century...almost certainly those are technological leaps beyond our realistic grasp. but just about everything else in the show already exists today in reality or is perfectly believable to be developed within the next 100 years (personal flying space craft, etc).

In all fairness, we only saw like 10 seconds of them fighting, all who are way way over-assessing his strength, we have no idea how it would've lasted in a long run. We can assume Spike would've lost but we don't know his weaknesses.

Ed father seems to be like Ging in HxH, a strong person but a terrible father who barely cares about their kid but still somewhat appreaciates/loves them in their own very selfish way, with both of them even seeming to test if they will be fine by themselves and ultimately asking them if they wanna join them in their trips. Gon and Ed even have the same reaction of "yeah hes just like that, hes still family"

I also love how there’s really no stated reason why this dude is so strong. This guy must have had a lot of adventures and he mostly just remains a mystery. Coming and going as he pleases then he just disappears. The fact that it’s so random…it feels very “cowboy bebop”
