I love Ed Norton. He’s not only a great actor, but extremely intelligent. For those who didn’t know, he graduated from Yale. Spike, goes without saying, a master of his craft. Don’t Ever quit. This movie is like a time capsule of NYC at that time following 9/11. Never forget.

25:48 - it's amazing the gestation of projects. MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN is just out now, 16 years later. There's a great interview w/Norton regarding the journey of getting this film made on Tim Ferriss's podcast.

No joke, I had been waiting for motherless Brooklyn since ‘07 maybe? I was so happy for him when finally got it made. Leaves of Grass was a really fun film of Ed’s too if you get the chance to watch it.

Incredible movie. Spike Lee is very hit and miss as a director but when he hits he hits a home run. This movie is one of them

HIt and miss director? Spike Lee is one of the best American directors of all time, but yeah I suppose a lot of even the best directors were hit and miss, to someone or another anyway

Edward Norton is so gd incisive...”spikes never constrained by the literal”...reminds me of so many choices Spikes made in his career, but most recently da five bloods. Such a brilliant touch to make the flashbacks of the four bloods with the same actors with no reimaging

I just watched it the other day. It is an awesome movie. Every scene is fire. All the actors and directing where money. I'll never forget the part where Norton's buddies are overlooking the WTC site.

I stumbled over it in the early 2010s and totally agree. Its amazing and I never had a single other person mention it. As amazing and relevant in 2020 as in 2003.

Damn Edward is just too intelligent and dammit intelligence intimidates. Edward's conversations are so worth listening because Edward teaches. How did Edward get so pushed to the back and he is so talented? Hey, I get it, because today you can be beautiful and that's it, just beautiful.

The older I get, the more I enjoy Spike Lee. I remember being mesmerized by the final scene in this film, where Brian Cox tells Eddie Norton he won't drive him to the prison, he'll simply drive away, and keep going, all he has to do is say the word. That put a lump in my throat, I can't lie. Inside Man is criminally underrated too. A study of race relations in America post 9/11, but one that doubles as a very smart and hip heist movie.

The very defination of a vanity project.
@mywhychromosome
@mywhychromosome 3 жыл бұрын
It went through a LOT of variations...the original book is set in the late '90s, and has lots of plot elements pertaining to that setting...so turning it into a 'period piece' as it ended up, involved a lot of work...but yeah, I mean total vanity project, as Biringvad said...just, in my opinion, a worthy one (admittedly, Norton is one of my favorite working actors, so...)

This is a great film. It is Raw emotion. If they would have cut the mirror moment from this film it would have been good but not great. I seriously think everyone at some point in their life needs to have that moment of personal responsibility. When I see Spike or Edward's name on a film I have to watch it. Both are phenomenal people and don't get enough praise.
