He was an original a genius a one off, If there had been no spike Milligan there would have been no Monty python and no alternative comedy, The world is a sadder place without him,,,

First time I ever encountered anything from Spike I was just a boy on a crap council estate in Catford, yes Catford. After reading his book I knew that there were people out there who understood how absurd most things are. Thanks Spike my life would have been duller without you.

I still think his war diaries are some of the greatest insight you'll find about WW2. They helped me understand my Grandad much better than any of my family did.

@@danielwhittaker695 I don't have it quite to the extent that you do (or at least I have never had a diagnosis), but I can firmly relate to your situation and it is a part of the reason for why Spike is so important to me. I hope you are managing your condition well and are doing brilliantly otherwise. Oh and sorry for taking two years to reply to you, I have come back to watch this fantastic film and just saw your response.

He actually lived in a small neat terrace in Brockley Rise according to his books. I lived round the corner and often walked past that house. There should be a blue plaque there.

Instead of a blue plaque.. There should be a fried egg on the wall. He'd have liked that.

50 Riseldine Road. Once after a 24 hour flight from Australia I made a pilgrimage there. Going out into the sunshine is a way of getting over jetlag, so I took the train to Honor Oak Park Station (all the glass in the windows on the stairs smashed) and walked to the house.

Elitist20 This is beyond strange. I am just re-reading ‘Rommel’ and was thinking about that particular address when your YT notification came up. Do you think he’s trying to tell us something? 😊

@@TheTibmeister Some years ago on a later visit to London I was staying in Camden Town, and every day I went past a venue called Koko. Only later did I find out that it was formerly the Camden Theatre where The Goon Show was recorded. Arrgghh! Wish I'd had a look inside.

Anyone have the clip of Spike on Parkinson telling the story of Jack Hobbs who shit himself and got on the train thinking he'd bought new trousers and it was a pink cardigan? Never forget Spike with tears of laughter. Would love to see it again.

My eldest lad once came to me and told me that they had to learn a poem to recite at school. I told him I had one for him. He went to school and stood up in front of the class and recited: "My name is Fred Fanakapan, I run around the town, sometimes with my trousers up, sometimes with them down, and when they were up they were up, and when they were down they were down, and when they were only halfway up, I was arrested!" It was the abridged version, but he was only 6. I miss Spike.

FRED FERNACKERPAN: A MYSTERY GOBLIN (from Spike Milligan's "Goblins" - Published 1978. Illustrations by Heath Robinson) I am a mystery fellow, I'm Fred Fernackerpan, I wear one sock that's yellow The other dipped in jam. I walk about the countryside I walk about the town, Sometimes with my trousers up And sometimes with them down: And when they were up they were up And when they were down they were down And when they were only halfway up He was arrested.
