I been collecting older 240’s, 44’s, 140’s. My latest buy is a mint 444sg. I been gathering all older husky saws to build them one at a time. Great video and knowledge shared here. I’m up to buying the big bore husky saws too. I ran mainly 2100’s in the firewood business.

One of your best videos yet, in my opinion!!! I recently tried to resurrect a 40 for a friend that belongs to her dad, but then i got up to 230 bucks in parts and still couldn't source them all, and then my limited technical knowledge ran out, so now I'm looking for a donor. Thanks again for the superb vid, both of you!

How close to NY are you I have a 40 carcass "partner style" vs. Husqvarna that needs a home. Price is right..:) Which 40 do you have and what does it need? Never certain buy from time to time we all run across stuff so post it and maybe someone can help.
@jerva2458 жыл бұрын
I'm in southwestern Virginia, so not too close :). But I think I'd be willing to pay some shipping. Heck, I hear upstate NY is gorgeous in the fall LOL--road trip! .... This 40 was built between 1987 and 1991 , if that helps--I think). It lacks some grommets, and chainbrake assembly, and some of the antivibe stuff is no longer available, according to ereplacementparts.com and others.. It has sentimental value , and she would like it restored in whatever fashion needed. I can get the serial number off of it if that will help.

The Virginia City that's in Wise County? If so, small world! If you can swing it, I'd like to meet up with you and would be interested in buying the "carcass" for sure!

I'll let you know how things progress. Should probably send u a pic to be certain the 40 I have is the same as the 40 you have....there were two! And unfortunately two in the same general era. The one I have has the "Partner" lay out and design.

"And nobody's gonna get that 154SG either!" Couldn't agree more. The 444 was a fantastic small saw in it's day and is still right up there today. However, I was there for the gestation and "attended the birth" of the 154 and it's still my favourite.

It’s hard finding new parts for these saws but the internet has finding parts much easier. The internet has opened up a market for the real swedish Husqvarna dirtbikes too. The performance of the Husqvarna saws drove me to try there dirtbikes too.

I have a Pratica 40 (Rancher) white top the tag says ass 6331/77 3400 and s/n 017525. It has no chain brake but looks like it was only ran a few times. It’s pretty dirty but the gas cap, plastics and bar are in really good condition. It’s a little hard to pull but it looks gummed up. Is it worth rebuilding and fixing?
@afleetcommand6 жыл бұрын
If you can find part I guess. They can be tough to find though. If your are an enthusiast why not, thats part of the adventure. If you are driven by trying to find a deal and a cheap saw...pass it along...:)

Would you be able to tell me the value of a 81' Practica 44? Cannot find that info online. I purchased it for $5. It wasn't running at the time. However I was able to get it running after going through the carb.
@afleetcommand2 жыл бұрын
$5 is good. Might take a while to find parts. Old saw have no "book" value. It's what ever folks are willing to pay on eBay or FB marketplace. I guess yours is worth....5 dollars. :)

There are a few things i want to add. The first 140/40 series had a different oiler system with gears, like on de 65, 65L, 77. and the cases where slightly different to the 444. The 444 all have a metal tank as far as i know, and the 44 have plastic. (consumer could do with plastic?? an pro wants metal??) starter cover was first metal, later plastic. The 140/240/40 and so, did first have a points ignition, later the models got electronic. On most of that series, the flywheel have 2 key positions, for 2 types of ignition used. The cylinder on a 444 is the same as used on the 244 brush cutters. And the clutch side bearing is NLA on all these models. and its a special bearing that's proprietary to Husqvarna. and is becoming a big problem in the near future ( its a bearing with the seal integrated)

@afleetcommand Жыл бұрын
Actually not 100 percent sure, but I believe the 240s had a points ignition and the later ones had an early CDI
@Saw_Squatch Жыл бұрын
@@afleetcommand that would make sense, the e might have something to do with the ignition kinda like the "electric quick stop" on Stihl's of that era

It's worth noting that the metal tanks vented through the fuel cap, and if you put a non-vented cap on it, you get about 30 seconds' run time between episodes of cracking open the cap to vent the tank. I, uh, don't know how I know that.
@austindenotter198 жыл бұрын

The 234 bolt patern will accept the 238,242,246,42 topends but even with the same stroke length, the connecting rod on the 234 is 3mm shorter

hey sorry this comment doesnt have much to do with the 40's but ive been meaning to ask you....ive been thinking about building my 353 e-tech into a 346 xp. first question is it worth it. second question what is the longest bar i can run a non skip tooth chain on.
@afleetcommand8 жыл бұрын
Not really a huge gain, I would check squish like I always do and see if you can do a no base gasket build before going to a 346 to end. Muffle mod as well. Longest bar....I guess for me its a 18 with a 50cc saw regardless of chain and wood. But My way of evaluating that may be different.

Pretty sure the first 61s had roll pins to locate the top cover with a single nut to attach it, like the 162. Later 61s had three screws like the 266.

You can't put a 246 top end on an early 42 or 238. There is not enough clearance for the 246 piston skirt (a couple of mm too small). That info came directly from the school of hard knocks.
