As a former player current coach and devoted footaball guy .... THANK YOU COACH I HAVE BEEN A 3-4 DC/ DB/LB AND DL coach in a 3-4 most of my coaching career (HS) mostly. I want to perfect myself for my new DC. I've been named DL coach, Special teams Coordinator and DQC. Any coaches familiar with these systems please chime in....... But so far I love these run fits and principals! Thanks coach!!!!!

Hey Coach. Thanks for all the great insight. What would be the advantage of Boxing while the offense is in shotgun and spilling while under center?

Great clinic coach. Have you tried teaching your DE's to spill, pry, and try to occupy the pulling guard as well? I thought it was impossible, but we drilled it all summer and has some success with it this past season. Makes life easy on the mike and allows the s/s to hang a little longer in the curl for RPO's.

Yes we have tried that but got way to flat to the line of scrimmage. Almost took ourselves out of some plays getting too far inside. Offense's putting the fullback much closer to the LOS has restricted that also

What do you have the Mike read on this so that he knows it's a power?

Coach Mac, can you do a blog on LB reads and run fits in the 3-4? Where their eye progression goes from guard to near back. And where they fit in zone and power with a down block from the play side guard and a pull from the backside guard. Just trying to get more insight on how other teams coach it.

in our Base rules: Tackles in 4's Slanting to C gap Nose in a 0 two gapping, fitting inside of Playside A Backers read guard to confirm run/pass, Backs to get flow: -- Flow to you: Fit B or the nearest Open Window -- Flow away: Backside A or Front Side A if the Nose gets jacked up. outsides read EMOL to #2 for C or D gap fit (based on whether #2 attacks him or not)

Aloha coach, As a double wing buck/option team, what do you do to prepare your team and 4-2-5 to play against such an offense? Also, we have been trying to incorporate some RPO to compliment some of our base buck series in order to be able to speed up the tempo and get defenses to play vanilla. What are your thoughts about buck RPO? Appreciate the time you put into your content and I always look forward to viewing your videos. Much aloha from Hawaii.

We play 8 man fronts and fit the FS off motion tendencies. RPO'S will depend on your formations and who you want to conflict

When boxing with the DE, does he keep his shoulders square with the LOS while engaging the kick out or does he go perpendicular?
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 7 жыл бұрын
He will be square to the line and use a hard joint technique, we are getting kicked but we dont want to accentuate that.
@sydneyaf1117
@sydneyaf1117 7 жыл бұрын
Is hard joint just stating that he will anchor at contact with the blocker?
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, basically settling down and hard collision with lead blocker keeping outside arm and leg free.

Now, how do force players play into this? Just a bit confused. For example, how would you spill/box vs., say, speed option, or power read toss? EDIT: Nevermind, watched 2 more minutes, and you started drawing it up. Great stuff, coach!

If you box with the Mike and he wrong arms it. It's tough for the Will backer not to flow into the Mike. You would have to teach the Will to scrape over the Mike so you won't have 2 guys in the same area. The alignment would be play side backer at the 4 technique, ( Sam actually), Mike at the 0i technique play side, and backside Will at 4i or 30. Better flow and a better fit at the point of attack. I mean that's what worked for my defense.
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 4 жыл бұрын
If you spilled with mike you would spill to a Safety and not the Will trying to scrape that far over the top. He would never wrong arm as a box player for us, at least would not be taught to wrong arm as a box player.

The Miami Hurricanes teach Mike wrong arms to close cut back gap, Will scapes over the top. That's where i learned it from. Safety is clean up.
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 4 жыл бұрын
David Ortiz I’m sure it can be played that way, we choose not to at my level with my kids. If the Will is playing that fast over the top you need a good smart safety behind him that knows where to fit. Hurricanes usually play pretty good D so not a bad place to learn

Hey Coach, can you be both a spill team and a man coverage team? Or is it more sound to be a box team if you prefer to be more of a man team? Thanks!

Coach, have you ever considered having your Edge spill player to rip (upper cut) the inside part of the leg plate or thigh pad of the kick out or counter blocker (using wrong arm technique)? It creates better pad level and (to me) a better contact point to create a more effective spill. I see too much poor leverage with a higher spill point (breast plate). The spill should be delivered lower to allow the player to bend back into play allowing him to be able pursuit or tackle ball carrier with proper lean.

Coach Mac, can you do a video on how you would defend the power read out of the 4-2-5?

I have a question regarding dline play. When lining up in a gap defense with shades, in your opinion, what's more effective? Having you interior dline trying to shoot the gap or should they attack the shaded shoulder. I'm anew head coach and my kids have more confidence just trying to get through the gap. Of course at times they get pushed down, but at least that gap is clogged because the linemen butt is now in that gap. Just would like your opinion.
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 7 жыл бұрын
Always better to try and read blocking schemes, shooting gaps is a last ditch effort in my opinion. Way too much risk, reward would have to be really high to go that route
@coachray6019

Thomas MacPherson now what if your dline is not strong enough to hold his position while trying to read? Ideally I would want what you're saying, but what's a good option for what I have. They are in the weightroom now, but they are still going to be behind all the other schools that had their head coach in place for years. Again, this was my first year. In the middle of the year I did switch over to a 3-3 stack, but that only helped for two games.
