You're the first person I've seen in the tree world spill an overhand knot to tie the bowline. Quickest way in my opinion and easiest to remember for a beginner. Only one step left after you spill it.

I independently came up with this method of tying the bowline many years ago but still had to remember the "rabbit hole" method for when I needed to teach the bowline to others

Love it! When I started I was told to practice tying knots in any direction from any position. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got. This tutorial perfectly ties in to that (no pun intended).

I practice tying bowlines around myself, around objects, bitter end on either side. It’s such an important knot, you need to know it inside and out.

Your bowline technique is much easier than what I learned. I like the “cowboy” method where the tag line finishes on the outside of the loop; more so for the running bowline where it’s contracting in the piece. Love the vids and love the IG

As it's in the end of the rope I would just tie it the normal way and then turn it around. Saves having to remember two ways and potentially getting it wrong.

What if you had to tie it around a post?

I guess you can always turn your back to the post and tie it the conventional way. 😅

@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM I honestly do not have any problem tying a bowline around a post whilst facing the post. If you follow the 'rabbit hole/tree' procedure it's so easy and I've done it hundreds of times. The issue with a bowline, and why many (rock) climbers don't use it, is that it can be tied incorrectly and will then fall apart. In that case if a tree/rock climber is having difficulty I guess they shouldn't be using this knot and should find another method e.g. re-threaded figure eight. It's great that you continue to make these instructional videos as so many others are just about cutting branches off. Thanks.
