Something I loved about this movie as a kid is that it flipped the 2000’s “woman is only pretty after taking her glasses off” trope and did the opposite. Reporter lady (I think Sam was her name?) is seen as beautiful with her glasses. Idk, as a kid that had been wearing glasses for years, that made me really happy to see.

This film proves that Lord and Miller are writing geniuses. There's so many hilarious quotes and gags throughout. Mostly with the giant food, Steve, and Officer Earl. But they also know how to balance it out with just the right amount of heart. The conflict and ultimate resolution between Flint and his father is handled really well, and overall, this movie just has a great message about embracing who you are and supporting your loved ones.

@i_will_not_elaborate Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it was unintentional but this movie felt like it was telling the autistic perspective of both sexes. Flint represents the male autistic experience as in, he's very intelligent about the things he's interested in but because of his social skills and the fact that boys mature slower than girls, he's stunted to that of a child or teenager and hides away in his room/clubhouse doing whatever. Autistic men and boys are often treated as if they're babies who can't add up 2+2 or delinquents who can't stay out of trouble. Meanwhile, Sam represents the female autistic experience as she has hyper focused interests too but people see that as "weird" and expect her to fit in. She also seems oblivious to social cues as in the people at her job sending her away to a remote island and Flint very obviously crushing on her. Autistic women are often seen as "more mature" or "more intelligent" thus, a lot of pressure is put on them in social events or academics.

Also I love the art direction, the 3d characters are probably the best 3d versions of the clone high art style, phil and lord said so in an interview.
