It is very much an official sequel if it was produced under the same company, it literally just has different people working on it then the original, it’d have to go through a different scale of a third party production separate from DreamWorks in order for it to be anywhere close to a budgeted fanfic.

1.Honestly, Charming had the potential to be the best villain in the franchise, but was wasted. I mean, he was basically raised with the sole goal of marrying Fiona and becoming king of Far Far Away. He had it drilled into his head that its his destiny. And then, suddenly, a complete nobody comes along and steals it away. After the Fairy Godmother's death he's left without a purpose, the only thing keeping him going being *revenge* and taking back the Happily Ever After that he's convinced was stolen from him. Wallowing in the past instead of moving forward. If the movie had taken itself more seriously, they might have explored how he's both Shrek's opposite in almost every way, but also how he kind of embodies all of his fears as a parent. The fear that his own kids might turn out like Charming, someome who is scarred and/or simply unprepared for the harshness of the real world and would rather delude themselves in a fantasy. 2. If there is any scene that deserves genuine praise, aside from the opening, its the talk Shrek has with Arthur next to the fire. It really showcases how far Shrek has come since the 1st movie. He's willing to open up and sympathise with someone over their shared crappy childhoods and tries to give advice based on his experiences, to the point that even Arthur remarks that he'll probably do just fine as a dad. Its just really well done, natural piece of character progression for Shrek. But that just makes the rest of the movie so much worse cause its a genuinely well written moment and a *small glimpse* of what this movie *could* have been. PS: Fixed some grammatical errors

They had some real missed opportunities with this movie. Shrek's worried about being a father, plus his dad tried to eat him? Should we have him have a heart to heart with his oldest friend who himself was revealed to be a father in the stinger of the previous film? Perhaps have him mention that fact as part of the reason he's so worried to the point of having nightmares? Nah. Honestly don't hate Artie either, but he could've been executed better too.

So in that universe, do they shoe horn the birth of the babies at the end of Shrek 2, or beginning of Shrek 4, or do they just write it in Shrek 4 that is the new 3 as a foot note of,"oh yeah I have babies and I'm not doing king stuff cause Arthur is king and suddenly fionas dad is dead" or do we just ignore the kingdom stuff? Is the dad still alive then and comes to the birthday party? Does that mean prince charming just dies offscreen or he teams up with rumplestilkskin? Thankfully in that universe hopefully the plot hole of rumple showing up as a small brown haired man and then becoming a ugly big headed dude with a giant duck thingy won't be a thing. I don't like plot hole character designs like that.

Seeing the movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish makes me hope that we'll get a 5th Shrek film someday in the near future, especially since the final scene of the movie shows Puss, Kitty, and Perrito sailing to the kingdom of Far Far Away to visit "some old friends. I also hope Arthur "Artie" Pendragon will appear in it since he didn't appear in Shrek Forever After. But I think Arthur "Artie" Pendragon should've been the one to have the ⚔Excalibur, not that punk Big Jack Horner who ended up using it as a ⚒Hammer.

It was pretty cool how Artie shows up and gives a speech to the villains, convincing them to give up their evil ways and how they don't have to give in to the "villain" image the stories made them out to be. Unfortunately, it didn't work on Charming. I guess it's probably because he's pure evil.

Personal Comment When I was younger I saw Shrek The Third at the time where I had seen Shrek 1 but not Shrek 2. For the most part I thought it was fine but the chemistry between Shrek And Arthur really spoke to me. When it got to the the quote said during the climax “Just Because People Treat like a Monster or an Orge or some loser it doesn’t mean you are one” that hit me hard. This is because I have been bullied in school and at times I thought it had something to do with me being a creep. However me going down a particular pathway allowed the make University and that’s where I’m at right now. Because of this I had a soft spot for Shrek The Third and used to rewatch it then and again as a stand alone. At that time I was disappointed that it was one of Dreamwork’s most hated movies. However I developed critical standards overtime and then rewatched all of the Shrek Movies from 1 to 4. Afterwards I released why 1,2 and 4 are really good and why 3 is really bad. On rewatch I found Shrek The Third had so little story structure and I only enjoyed the chemistry with Shrek and Arthur and hated almost everything else. My unpopular conclusion Shrek The Third May be a cinematic disaster but I still love the few details that aliterates the message about being who you want to be, not what people treat you like. It means so much to me that it is still my favourite feature in the entire franchises. I think if Shrek The Third was edited and successfully developed this message. It would be a masterpiece and my favourite in the the Franchise. Let that be the potential this movie had.
