The spinal cord is actually made up of both neurons and nerve fibers. The neurons in the spinal cord include interneurons, which help transmit signals between sensory neurons and motor neurons. These interneurons play a crucial role in processing information within the spinal cord. Now, when we talk about the spinal cord being described as a bundle of nerves, it's because the nerve fibers within the spinal cord carry signals to and from the brain. These nerve fibers include both sensory nerves that carry information from the body to the brain and motor nerves that carry signals from the brain to the muscles. So, in a nutshell, the spinal cord contains both neurons (like interneurons) and nerve fibers, which collectively allow it to function as a pathway for transmitting signals between the brain and the rest of the body. Actually more precisely speaking spinal cord is tubular bundle of nervous tissues..not nerves but We have to follow the wording of our txt book....we can say bundle of nerves because 33pairs of spinal nerves arise from spinal cord made up of sensory and motor neurons(axons)
