Whats up KZbin!?!? This is the eighth video of many videos documenting my experiences surrounding a Spinal Fusion Surgery. I had my L4-L5 fused and the L5-S1 decompressed and cleaned up. I hope you enjoy the raw emotion of the videos because I'm trying to be as real as possible. Yes, the videos are a little bit amateur but I am making these to get the information out to those who need it.
Thanks for watching.
Here is a link to my next video - Random Pains After Surgery??? Q and A #backpain #recovery #relief #video #spinalcordinjury #answer

Hi everyone ! Thank you for sharing all of this invaluable information! I had my L4-L5 fusion surgery on October 18th this year and I’m feeling very good with therapy, I do walk 30 minutes (3 mph speed), ride bicycle for 10 minutes a day and I’m doing a lot of stretching at therapy and I’m so happy because I can see results right away. I also try to get 10k steps a day and I try to walk as much as I can. I’m a construction contractor and I start to do some painting, trying no to get hurt and not lifting heavy paint buckets but I’m feeling so happy, I’m also leaving the cane aside when I get familiar with the place that I’m working but I always take it when I go outside or when I walk on the street just to prevent any falling but I’m starting to feel confidence while walking with out cane. I also do a lot of balancing with a single foot and I think this is why I started to feel confidence to walk with no cane at all. I started to do exercises to walk up the stairs, this is something I’m still having pain on my lumbar area and right leg when I start raising I assume that it’s because the nerves are still inflamed or I still have to practice this in order to gain muscle mass, I’m just guessing but I definitely will ask the doctor on January 6th. Well, thank you so much for sharing your experience, it’s very helpful for me and thank you for letting express my experience with my surgery. Armando Morales. Los Angeles California.

Hi Mark...thanks so much for posting all of this content about your L4-L5 surgery recovery. I had pretty much the same surgery almost two weeks ago, and am experiencing a lot of pain in the sciatic nerve running down my left buttocks. I have to keep watching your videos to keep from going down the rabbit hole of "what ifs"....as in, what if this never improves...will I ever sleep again? Watching you regain your strength and former life is inspiring, and I am hoping to be able to get back to doing some of the things I had to give up over the years to accommodate my symptoms. BTW I'm a 70-year-old woman, looking forward to playing with my granddaughters again. Thank you so much!
@TheFuzedLife
@TheFuzedLife 16 күн бұрын
Diane, hi! Thanks for supporting the channel and viewing the videos! I never experienced the sciatica after surgery but they say your nerves has a memory so I’m hoping that is all it is for you. I think your healing process will be a little slower than me by virtue of your age but I’m confident you will get back to how you were before the surgery. Listen to your body!!

I appreciate you taking your time to take all of us on your journey. My husband had surgery on his L4/L5/S1 where they were fused. He still hurt like you did but never got better. Now he complained enough that we went to another Doctor that did a nerve test and CT found that the screw was coming loose and the bone graft didn’t take. He would walk but at times felt he was doing too much because he would be real sore or hurt so he sat a lot at times in his recliner, which we know now that was a big mistake. When he did stuff in his shop he wanted to move stuff around or pick up stuff too soon of course prob 3 /4 months out of surgery. I feel isn’t doing a lot like you did because he hurts. Even if he hurts a little he should push hisself ? And maybe take his meds like you did to get the swelling down keep walking . Now he has to get ready for the repair surgery where the doctor has already told him he would go in and put a bigger screw in, I’m not too happy about that, I would like to get feed back on that and I have also heard watching a lot of KZbin that sometimes they go ahead and fuse L3 for support, I don’t like that. We are so confused and scared that, he is disabled because of this and the age 64. You are doing a wonderful job with your KZbin God Bless You. By the way if you can tell me what Dr in ElPaso did you use.

Helen - I read your comment, mine is exactly the same. I am 64 and had same surgery and it fail no different than your husband. The screws came loose and my surgeon recommend a new type of surgery to correct the issue. They used a Spinal Fusion Simulator device to make the fusion work. I feel great with no pain so far til now. It has been 2 weeks after this 2nd surgery . I live in Houston,Texas . I do not recommend bigger screws they will do more damage than good. Good Luck ...... I do like this video because it bring memory and realty experience.

Lots of tests, CT, MRI, Injections, therapies later the Drs still can’t figure out what’s wrong :( It’s just hard to believe that I’m in the 10% of people who fails this surgery!

I grew up and lived in your neck of the woods on the west side near Coronado HS then moved from there in 2009. My back in the L2 though L5 is filled with arthritis and will need a fusion to relieve pain. But also have lots of arthritis in hips. Trying to figure out what is causing most pain before deciding on surgery. Watching you move about while doing exercises gives me hope, though I probably have more than 35 years on you. At least I know I may have some flexibility as long as I do stretching exercises. Only thing I know is growing old is not for sissies. Good to see you doing well.

Great to hear you’re doing so well, as you know I’m a month behind you in post surgery times but probably 2 or 3 months real-time, pretty much due to my physio at 12 weeks changing my program to a too demanding program and my back and everything around it getting inflamed, not being able to take nsaids just couldn’t get the swelling down, trying to keep mobile just made it worse, catch 22. Any way I’m at 6 months and about 2 weeks things started to subside ( swelling) and now starting to feel normal ish, don’t want to try and run or anything like that just happy to be able to walk around pain free is sooooo goood! So you message about listening to your body is a good one. I have been taking curcumin and PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) for about 2 months and I’m convinced they’ve helped me turn the corner, could also be time or a mixture of both. Going to hydro therapy 2 times a week in the warm water is helping and I’m just taking it steady, I wasn’t the most physically fit person before so I’m not going to be post surgery so loosening up the joints and muscles is going to be a gradual process for me anyway and I’m sure I’ll get there now, a few months ago I wasn’t sure. Anyway now you done your update guess I’ll have to do my update too :) take care Rich

Hello there, I’m coming up on a month here (L4-L5, L5-S1 spinal decompression/laminectomy). I’m starting to take walks around the neighborhood and am ok, just a bit sore after as I was not fit to begin with, plus all the post-op recovery. I have a numb left leg and foot, so I’m hoping that will eventually work itself out, but I am concerned. Getting in/out of bed and/or sitting for over 30 min is painful still. It’s inspiring that you are doing so good at 7.5 months and probably better by now. I have a sit down job and wonder how long before you went back to work, I know that can vary by job and post-op results as well as the individual. Just trying to gage if it’d be 3-5 months? The point you made with coughing/sneezing is crazy because yes that is still painful. Additionally, the hip pain/feeling where it almost makes you walk/lean to one side…did you get that and if you did, approx. what week did that fade away? By the way, really want to thank you for sharing your experience and believe this will help many viewers pre and post-op for sure! Or if they are scared to take that leap of faith. I look forward to feeling as great as you look and feel. By the way I’m 50 years old which can also be a factor.

I watched all your videos and I'm glad that's working for you. My dad is about to have the same kind of procedure l4-l5 and l5-s1 , but they want to do two surgeries one is three hrs where they go in from the Billy and the next day other surgery from 3hrs where they go in from the back. But he don't have back problems what do ever he has a major feet pain, which has been told for the last 8 years it's neuropathy, but the last two years the been has been getty worse and worse in the feet in way can hardly walk can hardly sleep real crying 5 times a week from the feet pain, did many surgeries in his feet the last two years. And a month ago they decided to MRI for the lower back, and showed that l5-s1 is actually touching and has no space, and l4-l5 is very close from each other but he has not back issues. So they want to do the same kinda of surgery you did, and hoping for pain relief in the feet. It’s been exactly 2.5 months from my L4-L5 fusion. My recovery was a roller-coaster, some days better some days worse! But recently 2 weeks ago I started having horrible back pain(spasms) similar to the level of prior surgery. I don’t know if I did something wrong. I just tried to go to my job (which is by the way a desk job). The xray showed no abnormality and bone has started to take place. But still I’m in considerable amount of pain! Don’t know what’s wrong :(

Hello. I know this video is 10 months ago and I admire your motivation to get to normal life. I also have the same surgery as yours and it’s been 9 months since I have my surgery and I still have burning pain in my whole lower back and so much nerve pain and muscle spasm. I tried everything I research a lot of stuff on what to do and not to do I’m frustrated. I told my doctor about it and he said there us nothing he can do anymore because it is a nerve damage. I am a very active person before I got hurt at work and ended up in fusion surgery. Now I cannot do anything. Any activities makes my back burning and so much muscle spasm. I wonder how you doing now after 10 months of this video. Thank you

Hi, I'm 1 day post op. I'm also in corrections. I'm planning on going back to work about 7weeks post op. Thank you for doing your time-line, I have an idea of what to expect. My back today is very tight. I had a laminectomy in 2004 and the surgeon told me it would last about 10-15 years. My back has been starting to hurt for about 2 year's and now had to have the Tlif September 13th 2022. Surgeon said the surgery couldn't have gone any better. I came home the same day and probably was a good thing. I have been walking to use the restroom and just taking short walks in the house without any assistance. If you are still checking your posts, if you could, would you let me know how you are doing now. Thank you in advance.

Now that you're 15+ months post up have you been hitting the weights? I hit the 1yr mark Apr 2nd, ive been cleared to lift weights since my 6mos follow-up but have been hesitant... I'm capable of doing everything you've presented in the video here, just hesitant to get back in the weight room/crossfit gym. At the 6mos follow-up the Dr said I could get back to everything except contact sports. He said at 1yr I could return to softball, BB, FF. Your vids were very motivational during my recovery.

@@TheFuzedLife I saw your Q&A vid earlier today, thanks for making that and sharing your journey. I went back to the gym last Oct. Eased back into it. No heavy lifts yet, totally starting at the basics, calisthenics, stretching, bodyweight, elliptical, rower, air bike. After the new year I started light machine weights, going to do that for 6 weeks, then move to Hammer Strength lifts for 6 weeks, then onto free weights. But, I can say I'm probably about where you are in recovery at 90-95%, every once in awhile I'll get a stinger, or the weather makes me ache.

Hey buddy you looking good got a question if you could reach back to me. During your recovery at all do you feel any kind of creaking or like cracking or whatever just weird sounds when you move like you twist a little bit or if you been down if you're sitting at the end of your bed or even if you're sitting on the toilet cuz those sounds like I said I've been 3 months now I don't have no pain in my back not so much at all not even when I cough or sneeze or anything but I do take pain meds here and there cuz my other problems but like I said I still got my feet they feel like real gritty and Sandy that could be from my neck does my hands are greedy and Sandy and tingly and I keep dropping stuff and like I can't even get tired my hands and arms are still bad and my neck hurts every once in a while actually a lot you know especially it's hard to sleep at night you know sometimes I got to lay my head down I don't get these headaches in the back and they get numb in the back of the head but I have cervical stenosis that's where everything is all crunched up in my canal which the canals and arrow but I am getting surgery on that and 10 days or so. But I haven't done really any running or walking fast cuz I don't got a lot of balance and that's probably still got to do with the neck part that's what I'm thinking in my doctor says the same thing once I have the neck down that might help me on my balance cuz it did say if you start losing your balance let him know because that's in your neck and it's still controlling your spine up in your neck area your spinal cord.but I still get the only thing I'm really getting in my back that I noticed as far as pain the incision a little bit you know not too bad but the creaking sound a crunching you know roast slightly it's not really hard but enough to irritate you if you get hit me back and let me know if you get those if you ever experienced those but I got to get that I got l4 replaced with a cage and I asked one replace with a cage and the infusion is 4 and 5 together with what's 6 bolts are screws titanium
