Spinnaker pole snapped in the middle of the Atlantic crossing - all hands on deck!

Pole is lost!! :) Things do tend to break on a sailboat, especially underway, but this one came as a surprise! The spinnaker pole folded in half at winds round 25-26 knts on a perfect downwind course. Bummer!
Observe a good team work, as the crew secures the broken pole, furls the genoa sail, furls the main, unscrews expensive pole end caps, and then says goodbye to the broken pole, as it goes down to the bottom of the ocean. All that in a perfect cheerful mood, during pouring rain, after 10 days at sea and at at 6am in the morning! What a Team!!!

Amazing video again - you caught the Amel 50 handling a squall well - and loved the “all hands on deck”!! An action video on a Amel 50 is fun to watch with the crew all soaked. To bad about the pole but as the Captian always say S&%+ happens, but a bit disappointed as I would think if it was from Amel the Pole would have made it through without much of an issue. This was much better than just saying we lost the pole in a storm. Carry on the good work!

Traveling the world in an Amel 50 is my dream but my son is only 5 so I'll need to wait at least another 12 years or so. Until then I will live vicariously through you and your content.

Thank you so much for kind feedback!! Glad you like our videos. Our kids are all grown ups, but back then, when they were little, we had no means for traveling at all. Now, I would just do home schooling and take them with us. Don't like public schools at all. Just an idea :)

The issue is that my wife is from Cambodia, she didn't have access to proper schools growing up and we moved to England (where I'm from) so that our son could get the education that she never had. Before he was born we couldn't afford anything like this, it's only in the last few years that things have changed for us. Again, thank you for the great content, this is what youtube was made for.

30knts wind and rain from the back and things will get pretty wet really fast :) The the helm seat is always dry, however.

Пересмотрел несколько раз, ладно, сильно не переживайте о потери, самое главное все живы и здоровы, сила стихии конечно вызывает чувство уважения к ней, в очередной раз убеждаюсь против природы нам по большому счету не чего противопоставить, все происходит за секунды, а мы лишь можем приспособиться на какое то время и переждать! Wow I wouldn’t of thought that squall would of done that with out a sail up even. I agree with you when you said it was a cheap pole. Glad boat didn’t get hurt or anyone on board.

А зачем же сразу за борт? Взять пару каких-нибудь палок, примотать тем же дакт ткепом, глядишь до бнрнга и доработала бы по прямому назначению. А прикреплено было за оттяжки, идущие к клювам, или просто за середину?

@@1RURO ну диаметр вы можете померять по той детали, которая на мачте осталась. Вопрос в толщине металла. Придёт хлипкая - опять сломается. Это не та вещь на которой нужно вес экономить
