Spinosaurus 1 dinosaur diorama: The sawfish pond , epoxy art

This video shows the making of a diorama where a S. aegyptiacus is entering the water to grab a large sawfish. Spinosaurids are dinosaurs that have clear adaptations to an swimming lifestyle.

addendum: The Sawfish model is by Collect A. There are several other brands, but this one was the right scale.

Hmmm...maybe make the water a greenish or brownish murky type of a look next time because the bright blue looks a little out of place since it's a freshwater pond. But nonetheless it's amazing 👍

I always intended to use this diorama in combination with its follow-up (the paleozoic museum), so blue water was intended. The resulting colour was more intense then I wanted, but what can you do afterwards? Thanks for the compliment.

Ayy, fantastic work! It's so satisfying to see one of my personal favourite Spinosaurus models (though I don't own it) get a diorama like this! And Spinosaurus is my favourite dinosaur of all time so I am really intrigued by this!

Thank you. I made this diorama because I wasn't to happy about the first (flat) display, that could be seen briefly in this video. But I put that one also to good use for Quetzalcoatlus (also on my channel). Have you seen the follow up too? (the museum).

This looks amazing! Also personally I think the air bubbles actually add to the scene. It looks as if the fish has stirred up sand and water and bubbles as it moves to evade the Spinosaurus!

Nice art, but I'm pretty sure there were plenty of other dinosaurs that swam as well, like koreaceratops and icthyovenator. Apologies if I'm wrong.

You are right of course. After discovery of spines on the tail vertebrae of S. aegyptiacus that proved it had a swimming tail, it is to be expected that other species of spinosaurids, like Ichtyovenator had this adaptation to a swimming live too. Koreaceratops is a new one for me, thank you.

One gripe I have with the Papo model is that the new tail discovery, showed Spinosaurus was no quadruped, it was a biped, even with short legs. The tail added a counterbalance to the skull and neck. I have no idea why they still made it quadrupedal.

Halskazaraptor and Lurdusaurus are Aquatic too, along with Oxalaia, Suchomimus, and Icthyovenator. :P

You are right of course. There will be numerous species of dino's that lived in or near an aquatic habitat too, that were not adapted to swimming . What about the diorama itself?

@@kaikdozer2112 Holds up to 2021 Spino, where it probably didnt swim after prey, and instead waded in and hunted like a heron. and the model on all fours kinda works, as spino could (PROBABLY) walk on all fours in water, since it's weight is reduced.

Thank you for watching and making a comment. You are absolutely right about the dust. Making covers for the diorama's would be a lot of work extra and it is much more gratifying to build a new diorama in that time. Eventually I will put mine into a (large) vitrine (glass cabinet). But there are over 30 at the moment.And many more to come. So it will be more than one. 😉😉🦕🦕

Cool! What brand resin did you use?

Thank you. It is a local brand, 'Mr.Boat', but you probably can find a similar kind. It is a slow curing epoxy, that can be used for layers up to 7cm. Even this thick it will not get hot like faster curing types do. www.mrboat.nl/resin-art/mrboat-giethars-voor-grote-gietingen/
