Honestly, I don't blame them for squeezing the Saw name in the title. Doctor Sleep is the perfect example of what happens when you don't do that.

I suppose the General audience just aren't perceptive enough to realize something is connected without a subtitle these days. There used to be tons of sequels and spin-offs to movies that were clearly in the same franchise but they didn't need a subtitle because it was obvious.

That was definitely a poor choice to not let people know that it's a sequel too Shinning not everyone seeks out trailers on KZbin and it wasn't marketed like a Hollywood blockbuster movie. Even Book lovers didn't know there was a sequel to it without word of mouth. So why make that same mistake with a movie 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

Yeah, agreed --SPOILERS-- As soon as it showed that tattoo that said "Charlie", I was like "Okay, so he's the killer and he's been using this as an alibi. Nice." And not showing his death did confirm my suspicions. Ofc, I liked the way a bunch of the lines tied in later

Not only that, not seeing his baby in that scene on the phone I turned to my friend and said “he’s playing sound effects.” She said “why?” I said “he’s probably upset cos the police did something to his family or something.” Final 10 minutes, genuinely hated being bang on on everything. There was zero reward for that haha
@bdonovable

After phone borrow i whispered to my friend in theater. That seems important. And then when he was at home working with his baby I said to my buddy "didn't see the baby, didn't see the wife. I think he cloned his phone earlier." And then when they did not show the trap, I said that "the body was def the meth addict." The one thing I didn't pick up on was the significance of name "Charlie" I knew him saying his kid was named Charlie was important, but I didn't know why. What I suspected was that later on during a casual convo, the kid's name would change, or he'd say his baby was a girl instead of boy, or that he would say he would say he had more kids---just a slip up that Chris Rock would call him out on, but Rock would be powerless to catch him. A phone call from Mexico or something.

@@_the_rizzler SPOILER, ---- I was suspecting of him because he was new, I mean what are the odds that the main charcater gets a new partner and inmediatly weird s**t starts happening. Once they found a body only with his tatoo that the main charcater had to recognize, the supposed victim being a newbe and having no time to be a corrupt cop therfore no sense to him ending up in a trap and when didn't even confirm I knew. I wish we had a full surprice of ''who'' and not the ''why'' and the movie telling us ''see here we overshadowed the entire ending, now everything makes sense, how smart from us eh!''. (Except of no one tells that the body that was found and everyone suspected it to be the new guy was not him because forensics told the DNA doen't match, so the new guy is missng. Either he is somewhere traped or he is the killer). No twists to explain that. So I spend the entire movie caring less about the traps and waiting the killer to be revealed to the main character and his reasons. So for me it was a weak for a saw movie. Not a bad movie but doen't give the ''omg I wasn't expecting that' moment, in Saw you always know that the one behind it will win but it's the way it happens that is surprising, or more people being involved, so there is always the ''why'' this apparently innocent people are put trough hell, ''how everyone is connected'' and ''why they deserve it'', the ''who is the killer'' as in every movie we have an extra ''bad guy'' doing thing from the shadows and his identity revelead in the end, ''the motive'' of the aprentices and ''how they get away with it''. This movie lack a lot of what make me actually watch saw. I hope the next one will have more of saw elements because this one was literally filled the scenes to ''fill'' and didn't apport anyting but a time killer for the directors as apparently they went out of things to say.

According to director Darren Lynn Bousman, a trap consisting of someone getting their face cut off had to be cut from the film in order for it to receive an R rating from the MPAA. Chris Rock is a fan of the "Saw" franchise and pitched the idea to Lionsgate. As a result, they made him one of the lead actors, a co-writer, and executive producer. The first film in the series not to be released in October In order to secure an R rating, the film had to be submitted to the MPAA 11 times. All other attempts resulted in a rating of NC-17. The first "Saw" film to not utilize the annual October Blood Drive with advertised poster models. Darren Lynn Bousman revealed that Detective Drury originally had a bigger role and a "horrific death scene", but they cut it out for being "too much". Marisol Nichols' second horror film, following "Scream 2" (1997). This is the third film in the franchise where the phrase "Game Over" is not used; the other films that do not include the phrase are "Saw V" (2008) and "Jigsaw" (2017). William Schenk marks the fourth Jigsaw Killer that had a family member killed. It is revealed that John Kramer lost his son, Gideon, in "Saw IV" (2007); Mark Hoffman lost his sister, Angelina, in "Saw V" (2008); and Logan Nelson lost his wife, Christine, in "Jigsaw" (2017). Even though a photo of Tobin Bell is shown in the film, the actor did not receive any credit. Is the second film in the series to be framed at 2.35:1. The first film to be framed in 2.35:1 was Jigsaw (2017). Darren Lynn Bousman revealed that he was very angry during the finger-skinning sequence, knowing that they lost so much of it to the whims of the MPAA. "You saw every finger break, every bone pop, every knuckle snap." Darren Lynn Bousman wanted a subway tunnel, but he was told the logistics just weren't in the budget. He held his ground, and they eventually built a subway tunnel set to meet their needs. It's a tiny set that uses forced perspective to make things look bigger than they are The previous working title was "The Organ Donor". According to Chris Rock, two films that were the inspiration for this film are "Seven" (1995) and "48 Hrs." (1982). Chris Rock's first horror film.

As a huge huge huge fan of the others. I love and appreciate the lore and the story of all of them, I gotta say I enjoyed spiral. I was glad that it tried to form it's own identity a little bit more. With that I appreciated Bousman's direction with the traps because I thought he found an intersting compromise with the grit of saw 1-7 and jigsaw. My biggest criticism is that whilst I like who they reveal the new jigsaw to be, the reveal lacked impact. The reveal from saw 1 is iconic and each subsequent film has well done reveals (especially saw 4). That said not a deal breaker. At the end of the day I'm happy there's more saw. The fact that it's Chris rock and Sam Jackson is still surreal but I enjoyed them in it. Rock did a great job. Here's hoping they do a tenth.

nah, it fell flat. Easily one of the worst Saw movies I've seen and that's saying a lot. It felt like it was trying to be Seven but Chris Rock still wanted to do standup. The twist was obvious immediately and the acting felt lazier than any other Saw film I've seen, especially at the end when the monologue is going on, or any scene right after Chris Rock learned of the horrific death of his partners and coworkers. My biggest complaint about the traps in this movie is that they felt too fast. Like "Jigsaw" feels like he has to give people hope that they can escape, but then can't wait to actually kill them, so he sets the traps to like 20 seconds..

This wasn't jigsaw though, this copycat doesn't share his motives, just his methods. He wanted those cops dead, given his revenge quest, so, not giving them a fair shake seems on brand, in my book.

@@eansba88- On one hand, I get that, on the other hand, why do through all of that touble? He could have just waited for the right moment, and shot them in the head. I've kind of had this problem since the beginning of the franchise, anyway. I feel like if the original "Jigsaw" actually stuck to his philosophy more strictly, more people would have survived, and he might actually have created a much bigger legitimate cult. And then he chose his successors poorly, and they all just wanted to murder everyone. This new guy seems like he wants to keep going..but I kind of wish he was closer to actually being like the original "Jigsaw".. I'm kind of disappointed that he's just a murderer.
@eansba88-
@eansba88- 3 жыл бұрын
@@brianegendorf2023 I feel like his use of "jigsaws" legacy was a scare tactic. A cop getting shot would have been taken seriously, a cop dying at the hands of a copycat serial killer out for all cops? That causes pure chaos. Chaos that he can use to say, kidnap a high ranking officer and teach them the fine art of candle making in the precincts basement. Its like face tattoos/war paint, mohawks, piercings, scarification... its psychological warfare. Become more than an enemy, become a monster. As far as the movie(and future movies) go. He was meh as a bad guy. Good motiv, mediocre execution (on the film makers part. I figured out it was him once he said "your dad's the reason I'm here") I wouldn't mind seeing other copycats, in new movies. Like 2 or 3 more, each with a different copy cat, all tying together somehow to create "the spiral cult" or something of the ilk.

I didn't even like the traps, they were pretty inescapable, John's traps gave the victims somewhat of a chance. The spinal trap lady would probably have drowned anyway if she couldn't move her body, the finger trap the guy basically did it and still died. The point of the traps was to make them grateful to live, who'd be grateful being permanently disabled or with no tongue, that guy just wanted to kill them.

The movie was a great addition to the Saw franchise, it's just unfortunate that it really has no deeper ties to the overall franchise other than it takes place in the same world, but the lack of character connections to the previous films is disappointing. Chris Rock was great in this film however and definitely brought levity where it was needed while never feeling forced or out of character. The evolution of Jigsaw's philosophy is definitely worth exploring but the character behind it just doesn't feel strong enough to be the next John Kramer. But the drama and overall tone and story was solid and by far one of the better ones in the series.
