An experiment from last night. But first a little back story… Last year I had tried once or twice to combine a glitch pattern and a spiral together but on the t-shirts I was using, the fabric always ended up too thick with too small a surface area after the first two folds of the glitch to be able to get a spiral formed in place of the pleats that normally make the third and final fold of the glitch pattern. So I would end up giving up on the spirals and reverting to a normal glitch most of the time. The one or two times I tried anyway, it just didn’t come out very recognizable as anything other than maybe some sort of glitch variant. Well last night I had one 5x shirt left to work with in my current stock and last year for the most part I only ever had up to 3x so I decided to give it a try again. It still wasn’t easy at all to get the shirt to form a spiral after those first two steps but I was able to just barely get one going so I bound it up good with rubber bands and did a hot water irrigation dye with it. And I think I’m calling this one a success or at least a proof of concept! This is the first attempt at this idea where I’m actually seeing both the glitch and spiral showing up in the final product! I think I’m going to need to go really big with this idea and to a sheet or tapestry! With a single layer of fabric and a larger surface area I think. it will really come together into something cool! Anyway, the lighting could be better so the colors are a little off in this picture but it’s raining today unfortunately. Thanks for checking out my work!
