This is without question one of the most mind-blowing ingenious inventions I have ever seen in my life. And I'm an engineer with 30+ years experience. Very VERY cool!! Should have possible applications in space exploration. Use very light weight materials and use it for moving solar panels in/out, etc. Stores in small space and if you use very thing material it could extend tremendous distances and since there's little gravity in space, the arm could get as long as you want.

One of the risks would be that your metal strips would start to cold weld, you would probably need to coat them pretty extensively.

Am I correct in thinking access to the area under the elevating stage should be closed off during times when the stage is in a position which creates a fall hazard? Perhaps also when it is lowering?

A sheet metal cylinder nonethless. Main advantage "no infrastructure" mounting and compact lift. So is a trolley jack.

Never seen a trolley jack that can lift 12 m high with a capacity of 11 tons.
