A small correction: 2:25 Jagged Earth actually comes with ten Spirits, not eight (Starlight and Many Minds were added during the Kickstarter).

This is my favorite game of all time - which I'd say that even if I was only counting the solo experience (which really is still the same game). I've not played at 4 or more players before. I'd give it a shot if everyone knew all the rules already.

Love seeing my favorite game on the channel! I definitely agree that the learning curve of Spirit Island is... a lot. I think we logged about 10 games played before we actually felt like we were playing with all the rules correct. If you or your group can get over that initial hurdle of rules difficulty though, this is such a phenomenal game. I also want to mention that there is a fantastic wiki on Querki that almost always answers a question we might run into. We just got the Jagged Earth expansion and the new spirits are an absolute delight to play with, Lure of the Deep Wilderness is now my go to favorite and I have barely touched any of the other new spirits. It's a game that makes my brain feel like jello once I'm off the roller coaster but give me 5-10 minutes and I'm ready to jump back in again and again and I don't see myself wanting to play anything else over it anytime soon. Also major kudos to Shea, found his channel when I was researching this game and his videos helped me and my group take the initial jump into the game.

Played a 5 player game of this on my bachelor party with 3 new players, took about 5 hours ending in a loss and not sure if I'd play with 5 again but like you it's one of my favorites and wanted to try it. Love this game

Yes, my god this is not an explanation you throw in early on. Give it numerous plays and get comfortable with the high complexity spirits first, because all the jagged Earth spirits are way more complex overall. Then it'll be worth it!

I don't think I'd play with 4 again. The two of us who often bring SI (or Horizons) agree that if we had 4, we would split into two games of two each.

You should try the Solo Mode. In my opinion this is THE best solo game of all times. Love it with 2 and 3 as well, four only with experienced players. Will never try 5 or 6 player mode 😁 Love the latest expansion anyways….

I've played Spirit Island with 5 players. The only time I was a bit worried when starting a 5 player game was that one time when we had 5 people and ... except me all of them hadn't even heard about the game before. Well: It still worked fine. It took as a very long time to complete the session (I think slightly more than five hours ^^), but everyone had so much fun that no one wanted to quit even though it went on into the middle of the night. One of them has actually asked to play again multiple times and stressed how much more he enjoyed it than some of his previous favorite games. (Well: All of them were experienced board game players that had played long games of Descent, Arkham Horror, Twilight Imperium, BSG etc. etc. before ... so it's not like they were new to the hobby.) Unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to play with 6 players so far, but I'm really hoping it'll happen ... rather sooner than later.

I have played multiple games with 5-6 players and it works well as long as everyone is experienced. If you have new players, I strongly suggest doing lower player counts first.

Haven't played with 4 physical yet, but totally agree that 3 is the sweet spot. It somehow reduces the mental overload for me. One note I disagree (or actually agree): Events are the only thing that gives you the feeling of unfairness. That's why we play without them so there's no unfairness. :)

Personally I think the game is fine with 4+ players, having had personal experience. You just have people who are near each other co-ordinate and the game itself is fairly compartmentalized and discourages quarterbacks so it works fine with larger numbers. Plus, when you hit 4 or more players you can layer some very interesting and wild comboing between spirits.

Hi Shea, would you mind considering increasing. your audio volume? I usually watch KZbin with earbuds in the same room as my wife watching something on the tv and usually if I crank my volume all the way up, I can cancel her out but in your case, I cannot. And she’s not watching anything particularly loud. Thanks for considering.
