Great Documentary! This is the first time i see someone from 詠春 using the long pole close to the body, as we do in 永春. From our point of view, this is the most correct way for combat.

Hi Sifu Leo, I don't know if you will ever read this but if you do. I was really interested in Wing Chun for a long while now.. but the thing is I'm not very built and have somewhat of an unbalanced posture. Some advice I've gotten is that I won't be able to be a very good practitioner of the marial art seeing that I'm have those disadvantages. I'd really like your opinion. Thanks.

I am not Sifu Leo but I have practiced martial arts 18 yrs now. If anything a product of good martial arts is that it can help correct bad posture. Martial arts gives you tools to strengthen the body to perform given movements. People have developed strength, balance, posture etc. through the practice of martial arts. A by-product I always teach my students.

the only person to stop you to do martial arts is yourself, if you want something in your life go to do it and never give up.

Ana Ortiz: the number one goal in life is to conquered oneself to become a better person...it is not about overcoming adversity or the lack thereof!!! your thinking is called low-selfesteem by professional help coach...martial arts can turn a wimpy, klutzy person into a tough and resilient respectable citizen, but its hard work...everything is about dedications and persevere whether you wanted or not!!

Do you get to use weapons in wing chun also how many weeks does it take to get good at it if you train everyday
@ArielVolovik9 жыл бұрын
Not a martial artist? To become a master it takes up about 18 years~
@ArielVolovik9 жыл бұрын
Forget about what I said, depends on the enviroment, and the pace you can go, seeing as you think it takes a couple of weeks to become good, you're a novice, but with practice, you will improve, personally I would say 5 years should make you pretty well rounded for a beginner.
@tjnesryan19 жыл бұрын
it depends on the person, if you have a better understanding, you can get good faster than most people. There isn't a set time, and even of you did master wing chun, doesn't mean you stop learning. And weapons i think is the last thing you would learn in the wing chun system.
@ArielVolovik9 жыл бұрын
+tjnesryan1 You learn 1 form - 1 weapon , the tigers by example is the staff ( stick) , then the leopard - Double Knives ( Because it was Yim Wing Chuns favorite weapons but because of the oriental society back in the day, the man goes before the women so we learn Leum bak Chows favorite weap first, the staff) , then the crane, dragon and snake ( used to be snake then dragon but they changed the system ) And learning weapons early will help you understand flow of movement :/
@tjnesryan19 жыл бұрын
+Ariel Volovik wait, aren't the five animals Hung Gar? although I like the input of the weapons, the swords though are the last thing you learn i heard since it consists of very advanced footwork.

Ok. Now, try this on Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, GGG, Holly Holm, Saenchai, Buakaw, and Masato. I'm sure these counters against those boxers and kickboxers are gonna work really well. :) You can try this against Mike Tyson too bcz he's known for throwing punches left and right outside of the ring.
@ArielVolovik9 жыл бұрын
+EdDy4RheelZ That's a sport, wing chun is a martial art - and beside this video shows physical, you don't know the energy aspect and the mental aspect - strategy. But hey you can look at buff guys and think they're strong but :P

+EdDy4RheelZ Lol Mike Tyson said himself he want's to see how wing chun works and he is learning some of wing chun moves in a behind the scenes of IP Man 3.
@darthclone78 жыл бұрын
+EdDy4RheelZ well some forms of wing chun is used in those levels.. its just hard to spot.. but floyd uses them quite alot, he uses the lead hand to trap the hands or draw a predetermined attack.. its used quite ALOT in muay thai as well... wing chun is all about trapping but a little bit too concerned about forms and traditions.
@blockmasterscott6 жыл бұрын
Maybe it won't work well in a boxing ring, but it works great in confined places like alleys with walls on both sides, especially if it's used for no rules fighting with no protection. And not only that, you just named a bunch of world class professional fighters that dedicated their full time lives to training.

winch chun is not practical
@Tetrahedragon210 жыл бұрын
wing chun is practical for killing people, not for sport fighting. Also, they're wrong, wing chun isn't designed for a smaller weaker opponent to beat a larger opponent. It's to show how aggression can allow a smaller opponent to defeat a larger opponent, that said, if a larger opponent has more aggression, the smaller opponent is doomed, this is true of any style.
@tomleyers847810 жыл бұрын
Tetrahedragon2 Hello, I do agree with the fact that Wing Chun isn't practical for sport fighting, but all the rest you said doesn't add up. Wing Chun was designed for a smaller person to fend of larger attackers, this doesn't mean that a big guy can't practice Wing Chun as I'm 6ft.1 myself. Wing Chun isn't based upon aggression and if you let aggression get hold of you you'll surely lose against a skilled fighter. Every Martial Arts is about control and when you lose control in a fight it will be over before you know it. Wing Chun is all about being calm and in control. I hope we can debate this like adults and I am in no way trying to start a fight.

it is if you don't suck at it

Tom Leyers Aggression and recklessness are different things. Aggression is just intensity, focus, intent, dedication, will to kill, etc. I'm not saying to fly off the handle and go crazy, that's just recklessness. Aggression is essentially just boundless determination. Hope that clears things up.
