we used to go fishing off this pier 50 years ago. i lived just down the road. i saw somewhere, probably a facebook page, which said how a shunting train couldnt brake in time and overshot the end of the pier. about 6 of the 4 wheeled open wagons went into the drink. i dont know if its true. i'm quite sure the tracks just ended and there were no buffers.
