I've been following you for years now and I'm astonished at how well you are transitioning to harsher sounds, that Collab with Ramos really changed the trajectory of your vocal improvement drastically and honestly, you are doing a hell of a good job man.

God damn that extended "yours" was awesome, I'm so used to Courtney's version, the extra hold made it really hit

Really good! Very interesting: without any shade, I'm encouraged that some of the tonal/range shifts are not as smooth as Courtney's (to be fair, how would they be!). This gives me confidence is developing my own voice, following the steps you have detailed and being able to go for it, each iteration getting better. Hope that isn't harsh, but it means a lot to me

Not at all harsh! I agree and it’s part of what’s so freeing about the approaches I take. I’m not concerned about being as good as the original. I’m just being a better version of me through the journey of discovery

Harsh vocals are getting so good Chris! I am curious and have a question- why, during those belty parts, do you keep a relatively closed mouth? I get that everyone is different, but when I see Andy or Brendon Urie do those sorts of belts they’re always wide open. Thanks!
@chrisliepe

Part of it is tone shaping! I find with my mouth wide open on higher parts, when I'm using my mixed voice, I need to slightly dampen the high end so it isn't too brash. On my low screams/growls, I'm shaping so that I can get a more brooding vibe. Someone like Andy... He has a wonderfully smooth high end to his voice and his voice lives more naturally up there than mine so he ends up being less brash over the same note range. I have a much lower voice than Andy, so when I'm using a mixed technique to sing a song in Courtney's range, I need to tame that high frequency range just a bit :) Hope this helps! I found this out just by listening to myself in a recorded format over and over and over again... and learned to shape things based on what I hear.

Chris, can you REACT to the vocal scream at the 4:06 mark in the song Dr Feelgood by Motley Crue? It's the most epic sound I've ever heard come out of a human being. I need to know how to do it!
