I live and work in Geelong and drive past your dock here at North Shore everyday one the way to work and home again. I love the fact the Spirt of Tasmania now calls Geelong home on the mainland. Can't wait for the new boats to turn up! :) Craig

When I was at School 1960s it was named The Princess of Tasmania and the other was The Empress of Tasmania. They would pass each other in the middle of Bass Strait.

In the 90’s there was Abel Tasman.

Not sure if you mean the "Empress of Australia" ? I went on that boat from Tasmania to Melbourne back in the 80's coming home from a school excursion. We flew to Tasmania and came on the ferry home. We slept in seats and the boat creaked all night. It later went to Italy and ended up sinking I think! :) Craig - Geelong

Well done! When's it likely to go into service?
@richlebrocq5 ай бұрын
Most likely early next year. The journey to Australia would take like 2-3 months. Then another 2-3 months for final fitting out/furnishing that will take place in Hobart

What happened to the sail from $99 from Vic to Tas?? Today's prices are absolute extortion. I sailed from Helsinki to Stockholm with my family and car overnight for $445AUD. The same thing on SoT is $1239.

So where is Spirit of Tasmania III? Spirits I and II are currently in service, soon to be replaced by Spirits IV and V. Where or what is no. 3??

Sadly, knowing our track record something will be discovered that does not meet standards but was not included in the contract and the Australian people will be paying the remediation as the manufacture met its obligations as per the contract. happened with trains ferries and light rail (trams) already, still have not learned from our mistakes

Only slightly over budget,after the Fins held the ship ransom

That's messed up. Did TT-Line get anything in return for its additional $80 million payment? That's like paying $40k for a car, then the manufacturer says, "nah can't do it. We need an extra $20k". That's insane

When there is a ship builder IN Tasmania that could build this ship with Australian workers and facilities, I think it is appalling to see offshore manufacturing contracts issued. The Seacats that use to do a return trip every day and sometimes 2 trips was built in Tasmania. It now runs the English channel.

Incat incapable of building such a ship. The cats, while they were fast, the seas on bass straight proved them unsuitable on many occasions.

It's hard for any business to survive by building 2 hi-tech large ships every 30 years.

how come the guys on the workboat leaving the ship are wearing bulky lifejackets designed for the Titanic? why not modern inflatables?

The ship went over budget & that's all they could afford.

Why is the paint job so poor? Even the aerial images the decks look like there are patched up areas and fading already.
@creperanch89684 ай бұрын
Because in the order of production, sea trials would come before final fitout and paint....

I Don't Care How Big, Or "Modern" A Ship Is; It Should Have A Bloody Steering Wheel, Preferably A Wooden One!! Without That, It's Just A Push-Button Barge!!
