Gosh, the idea that invoking or arranging spiritual protection would be almost an afterthought boggles the mind. From my earliest encounters with the non-physical world, I gathered whatever I could in the way of protection. In one case that I won't go into much detail about here, with two other friends we went to a place with a scary reputation. I continually sought protection, and one friend did NOT open himself to the locus genii. However, one person did open himself to whatever was there, seeking an encounter to provoke belief of some kind no doubt. He neglected protection, and he did indeed have a most unpleasant encounter, the effects of which we all felt. Three weeks later he committed suicide. So protection in my view should be sought and learned before undertaking any otherworldly encounter. Sometimes when one is under the protection of a "contacted" group, other procedures might apply because the group you participate in gives protection. But protection should in my view never be neglected for a moment. But then, I'm an old codger and my perspective might be considered old fashioned!

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I also baulk at the idea of approaching any spirit without first learning at least the basics of safety.

Don’t give up on the water color! It’s fantastically liberating and an exercise in prediction. You have to just get out of your own way and let it do it’s own thing. Get great paper and good quality paints and a decent brush. It’s like a living thing and the more you learn who it is then you can create together

Interesting video, I came mainly from an Eastern tradition in Asia and talisman, mantra wheels and mandala is closely resembling sigils and magic circles, with mandala literally translation into "circles/wheels". In Buddhist traditions particularly the Tibetan Buddhism which Tantra has a lot of mantra (translates to spell of sort) and usually the mandala have a specific text to recite and visualize with. The idea that the heaven is circular while the earth is square is deeply embedded in the Chinese folklore that the ancient coins is a circular coin with a square hole in the middle. A lot of magic circles that is present in the book is eerily similar to Taoist and Buddhist tradition sigils particularly the bagua, which your channel logo is actually very similar to the yin yang symbol that is usually centric to the octagon bagua.

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing that excerpt from the pamphlet, it was excellent food for thought. I’ve heard more than one artist describe how deceptively difficult it is to paint well with water colors, so you’re not alone! On the bright side I thought your previous drawings were excellent. I don’t know how long you’ve been at it, but I was impressed. It’s always a pleasure to come and see a video by you Denis, best wishes to you and yours.

What really seems to be lacking ( as far as I have tried ) is an updated non-Solomonic magick circle that is somewhat simpler to cast-I’m yet to find any demonstrations on how to cast one yet. Would be great if you could do a video demonstrating how you cast a magical circle for invocation or evocation.

Always bringing quality vids Denis! Can’t wait for your book! Always found the topic of the circle fascinating. The way some paths and disciplines view it as protective while others view it as a means of inviting and amplifying the spirit powers with protection being secondary.

I am a firm believer in the circle of arte. I happen to use my own variation in my common practice to call the 4 elementals when doing a ritual. I use a chalk I dressed with Fiery Wall of Protection Oil and with holy names enscribed upon it as a way to symbolize the connection to earth and the divine. Then I recite Scott Cunninghams Invocation of the Elements to seal my circe to begin the great work :) Though, i'd really like to attempt to use more of these other circle designs later on when I feel a bit more brave to try visible manifestation mehtods for spirit evocation. Don't feel I am prepared, nor have the space to attempt that kind of technique quite yet.

This sounds like a very nice technique! Thank you for sharing!

@@FoolishFishBooks I appreciate that! If you got any tips or tricks to strengthening it I'm happy to listen! I'm always open to experimenting around a bit. The next circle of arte I hope to try to utilize the names of the 4 winds and rivers of Hades for a more hekatian oriented conjuration :)

Very useful and argute musings, Fish, as always, btw. Thanks for generously sharing them (again: as always). As for the cross symbolism, I’d add also the 4 elements which the world is made of, and whose synthesis (and 5th element, as an incarnated Spirit) is man himself. Thus being its synthesis, it makes sense a man traces the very essence of the world in the celestial realms, during e/invocation preps, doesn’t it? I really wished Ouroboros Press to make a new edition of Magic Circles… I tried to find it somewhere, but without success, not even on the second-hand market. Could you perhaps forward this suggestion to the editor? I'm sure our (nowdays large) community would be again very grateful to you!

You truly want to learn watercolor? Go to your local zoo or park and do 5, 10, 25 min sessions of the wildlife (best/worst part is they don’t sit still and constantly moving forcing you to be fast and quick) with 3 brushes you’re comfortable with and a small travel size set with water container and watercolor sketchbook. This will help get the flow and the worst “drawings” out of your system. Good Luck.🍀

Hi Foolish Fish. Could you please make a video on a beginner's guide to contacting spirits? I've been reading occult literature for some time, and I still haven't really got a clue how to "protect myself". I did not get on with Damon Brand's book on the subject, which you recommended, as I had no context for the entities which he calls upon for protection.

Aahhh those dang water colors kinda hard to manipulate a medium that has so much energy, spirit and is a element. More of any other unless ur working another like fire eg . U have to anticipate where it’s going to go so u can see how the pigments will saturate. Never my favorite but I have come to appreciate more mediums as I grow as an artist. Keep at it and I’m sure u will get to where u want to be. Thanks for all ur insight 🙏🏼💙✌🏼

I have an open question. During the video the term "circle of art" was mentioned. This is a term I'm familiar with having first come across it in (I believe) the writings of Eliphas Levi. I have a faint recollection of the word 'art' being an acronym but I'm unable to find what it's an acronym for leading me to believe that I'm misremembering what I read. Can anyone shed any light on whether it is indeed an acronym (and what it stands for) or that I'm mistaken. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this had bugged me for quite some time 🙏 Denis as always great video

I might suggest a "spirit feast" where you put out a table of carefully prepared foods (roasted meats, fruit, vegetables, fresh bread) and drinks (milk and water) and incense (frankincense is best) and candles and say out loud to the spirits that surround you that this is for any of them whom you may have offended or who may need peace, to eat and enjoy and please leave you alone. The full ritual is described in Jason Miller's Consorting with Spirits. After that, I suggest learning some basic banishing rituals. Certainly the LBRP, and then both the Master Protection Ritual and the Sword Banishing rite from Damon Brand's Protection Magick. Good luck!
