I think Im finally starting to understand why I don't understand openness. If its biased around hope, my brain rejects it. Doesn't want hope. Hope is the appetizer for the meal of disappointment and I want to leave the table. And if its about looking into the unknown and saying 'there are good things there.', I also can't understand. Why would I think that, and thats a genuine question. What makes you think that, persons who can? I look into the dark and think 'there are *bad* things out there for sure, maybe there might be good things but not nearly as many.' It was however, refreshing to hear a description of openness that wasn't "you should never want anything."

It's interesting to model hope as openness to the present, and that if it were a car driving, is a view out the front mirror, the percentage of how much we are paying attention a) to the map (future projections which may be inaccurate) vs b) rearview (past) or the c) real world road and obstacles/opportunities there we cannot predict (esprecially if we've never been there before), d) hopes as bugs squashed on the windsheild
