Very nice. These toys are a lot of fun, but I think I’ll stick with my trusty Softube Tape, Wavesfactory Spectre and MasterPlan combination. The Mixland tape looks very intriguing too; perhaps it can do what the SPL can and more. Leave it to the internet to get excited about a 27 year old bit of tech, that most people had moved on from, haha. DAW cassette is one of my faves for instant lo-fi. I use it all over the place.

@RayTheProducer i still use psp vintage warmer 2 😆 some of these vintage software based units just have that something something like lexicon and tc electronic stuff. Mixland tape is very very good and i think is like 45 dollars right now. It's getting a video after trying it out. Very cool plugin... but it's also emulating digital tape reels so vintage digital tech lol

@RayTheProducer DAW cassette an DAW LP are very good plugins

Very true. Some of those by now ancient plugins have a particular sound and are still sought after; Inflator is another, along with the Vintage Warmer you referred to. Then again, it may just be ‘because so and so used it therefore it’ll make me a star’ haha. 😅 Good work here.

@RayTheProducer the older the plugin the bigger star you are

@@RayTheProducerOxford inflator is just a simple wave shaper. Easily reproduced with something like CM wave shaper or similar (image lines too). It's vastly overpriced for what it is. But it does sound good sure. Just you can null it very easily with freeware

Really great video, man. It's really close between the mix head & Spl. I haven't pulled the trigger on either one yet. probably will go with the spl one if i decide to get it.

Glad you liked it. Both are pretty good. I like the way machine head saturated while maintaining more impact but mixhead that had nice low thump. The mixland tape plugin is only like 40 dollars tho lol

The Mixland plugin is made by the same person who made the Kiive one, Eddie L.

I know, but it sounds difforent. I like both but found the mixland one to just sound better. Like how i like the tubetizer more than distinct v2. But love distinct pro.

I'm struggling to thing why we would want something with such old algorithms? Surely more modern ones are capable of a much better and more accurate sound? Things have come a LONG way in DSP coding, emulations, science and knowledge... Just riffing, not saying the original wasn't good at the time...
@IntheDAW3 күн бұрын
@MichaelDowComposer well the original didnt do a good job in sounding like tape it was just a really good dsp code. And I have noticed we still use old code for alot of stuff. People swear by the psp vintage warmer (me included) and i think it turned 20 or 25 years old last year. Lexicon reverb emulations are all code based hardware, waves l1 and l2 are still a staple in many pro engineers toolbox and that plugin and the hardware version is old outdated code. It's a sound that people liked and it wasn't affordable back then. 15k for a digital unit is way to outrageous. But I do agree with you when it comes to tape emulations. We have really good ones now. This is more of a saturation box

@@IntheDAW@IntheDAW yes some good points there actually. Good point about psp vintage warmer. Also I still love my access virus and that's long in the tooth now!

Let's also remember the sonnox inflator and other software. We complain about digital so much but love that vintage 16 bit code

@@IntheDAW never had any interest in inflator. Always knew it could be done with a simple wave shaper and it was proved recently by someone cleverer than me. Nulls perfectly with a simple spline based wave shaper. Nothing magic at all going on. Worth looking up the video. Id say it's a scam but it's still a well packaged plugin that makes a sound bigger. It's just lying about it doing something special.
