Excellent and very clear video tutorial! The Phonitor is a great device for implementing psycho acoustics/sound localization into headphone mixing. A subject that probably not everyone is aware of. Being able to controle distance and angle while mixing on headphones gives a great advantage to finetune reverbs/delays and other additive effects very accurately. It also makes it more relaxing to your ears while mixing on headphones giving the possibility to work for longer. The crossfeed function is a very nice feature as well. Perfect for checking mono compatibility i can imagine. I recently started working in a small recording studio in Amsterdam. My partner in crime and me are a big fan of SPL. We are recording through the Gainstation 8 and mixing on the incredible Neos. I have to say the sound quality is absolutely stunning! The Iron is also on the wishlist! I have a small homestudio myself where I mix on headphones most of the time. The Phonitor Mini would be a perfect addition to my setup. I bet it will improve my mixes in many many ways! Wow!, what a amazing tool have you there folks. I mix several times "on the go" while we are touring... that means mixing on the plane, mixing on the bus, mixing in hotel rooms. #splPhonitorMatrix means the answer to me, this can let me feel the presence of monitors without carrying them everywhere. 👌🏻 Congratulations to all spl crew for bringing to us an amazing piece of gear.

I want this thing so bad! -- my current studio situation is in an apartment, so I can't be cranking speakers up too loud at all; yet I know the inherent difference between mixing in a room and on headphones. This would solve so much in the mixing I'm doing for myself and other clients when I don't have the room to do so -- and the versatility for personal preference is absolutely amazing. This piece of equipment is incredible. I sure hope I win this raffle.

Phonitor Matrix is an excellent tool that allows audio mixed on headphones to more closley present as if mixed on speakers in an ambient environment...without the negative acoustic artifacts of stereo speakers playing back in a room. Very clever indeed! I often travel with my bass, some pedals, a Zoom H4n recorder and Surface Book running Studio One. Along with my Sony and Bose headphones, this setup is my hotel room studio. The small size of the Phonitor Mini is most welcome. Now mixing in remote or field locations on headphones may not require additional mix or edit time back in the studio. Obviously, a game changer. Well done team SPL :-)

Years age there was a need of have a AKG K1000 to achieve such efekt on your head. Now with Phonitors we can do it with every available headphones. Thank You SPL for making a World a litlle bit smarter :)

The Dynamic Range and the THD of the Phonitor are impressive. It would probably be possible to calculate the "presets" for the setup of the matrix corresponding to certain speaker sizes, maybe even popular types/brands, with their volume and location in the room.

What an amazing feature! I'm really impressed about the features off this. I was thinking about this problem for a long time, but didn't find an answer to this problem. Finally I found the solution!. Couldn't believe it. This makes mixing on headphones possible. Even don't wanna do it anymore without this feature. Amazing! Congratulations to SPL who provided this. Revolutionary!

Great thing!! If you don't have a studio with midfield monitors - i'm sure that this is best thing to do great mixing with good reverbs and delays, cause it always hard in nearfield monitors. Now you just need phonitor pair of monitors and headphones. I really need it. Thanx SPL.

I've got the SPL Gainstation 1 preamp and I like it so much! That's why I respect SPL and always try to watch/read about theirs new products. Guys, I just amazed with Phonitor Matrix! Oh, WOW! I’ve always liked working in headphones to better control stereo-panorama and make precised tuning on mids and highs. But my head-phones isn't ideal, so I always have then to check everything on my monitors, especially while working with a bass range. But my home-studio room is too much far from ideal acoustic conditions. So I can’t be sure my mix sounds just as I hear it… I’ve always had to check it on many different speakers in many different rooms. Phonitor is such a GREAT opportunity for me and many home-studio headphone-producers like me. It really solves the problem. SPL makes a GREAT JOB! Thanks!

Definitely could be a pretty useful tool in the studio. I know I often struggle with how different the stereo spectrum is perceived from near field monitors to headphones. It always takes me a few minutes to adjust my ear. Would love to try this out for sure!

wow spl! It seems that you guys really think even in the people who don't have that expensive equipment or acoustics rooms that their music should sound really good.. I would love to win one because in my country it is really difficult to find gear like that and if you find it, it would surely be very expensive. If win, I will improve my mixes because I always mix with headphones but with the phonitor matrix, it would be like to have real monitors in my headphones, so I would make the people listen to what I really want to listen to! With the phonitor you will have lots of fun, looking for the perfect balance to your mix, changing the position of the "monitors" bewteen songs if you want, everytime looking for the perfect sound! Damn after a year owning the SPL Phonitor MIni, now I understand it clearly how does those awesome feature work. I surely will play with those now. But I have a question, how big the impact of the music / recording quality to these feature? Because the first time I bought and use file with mp3 format with bitrate 192 - 320kbps I cannot really hear the major difference, while it is totally different with the sample given in this video. I hope I can win this and get another Phonitor Mini to use in my home :D this Phonitor Mini is marvelous even with the matrix function turned off.

If the music has less information on the side signal and is almost mono, the “super stereo effect” is less noticeable on the playback through headphones. The better the quality of the playback and the more spatial the recording/mixing, the better it sounds using the Phonitor Matrix. Just like in a good monitoring situation with loudspeakers.
