I definitely like warmer tones myself 👏 Btw man you should incorporate more of the funny skits and stuff you used to do in previous videos, the humor was what really helped your videos stand out 👏

I am the oposite. If i see this ugly yellow i throw up. I like clean whites, cool and true to life colors. Blue and teal are my favorite colors.

Really helpful! I like warmer tones too and routinely set a WB ~6500 outdoors.

What about using a color picker and click on a white (or grey?) part of the image? Either some surface naturally present in the scene, or a color card? The color picker is a tool I usually use in Lightroom for correcting WB in photography.

My weapon of choice for colour correcting White Balance is to use the Vectorscope. Its an amazing bit of kit, especially if I'm out and about and forget my White Card or forget to White Balance my camera through User Stupidity. I use a similar editing software to you however it allows me to "offset" the entire colour range of the shot without moving the individual colour and temp sliders. I can use either method but prefer to do both at once with the "Offset" feature of my software. I just aim to get the majority of my colours on the Vectorscope to sit smack square in the centre of the Vectorscope. Another tip, which I know that you know about, is to use a different colour to get good White Balance using the Vectorscope. Not everybody will have a White Card at the time but there is usually one colour always present in the shot, and that is Skin Tones. You can put a mask around a skin colour, such as a face, arms, legs or torso. You then look at the Vectorscope and wiggle that colour patch so that it moves towards and along the Skin Tone line on the Vectorscope. It does not matter on the skin colour because all skin tones fit along that line. You just have to work out what the Skin Tone line is and how to get it to show on your Vectorscope. I never could get my head around using the RGB hystogram method because of all the different variables including dominate colours like your Forrest example, but once the penny dropped on how to use the Vectorscope, I have never looked back. It takes me seconds to balance the colours on my footage. Its still more an art-form than an exact science, but I am getting better at it. Having a calibrated monitor also reduces the chance of your eyes playing tricks on you.

I think it's better to adjust the white balance with the global/master wheel rather than the temp/tint sliders as it delivers much more natural results..

Why are you strugglin to set WB in post? If you nail WB in-camera, you would have a "correct" set point to begin with. Then you can drop on a LUT and Bob's Your Uncle. Do you have a video that shows the correct chronologic way to approach this for us video newbies?

Great, simple steps. Thank you! Does this also apply to video NOT shot in LOG?

I think it would be even more critical if not in Log as that would make it even tougher to correct WB in post if it's not Log or Raw 👍

How would you set your white balance @ night or in a dark setting?
@DanteJDM
@DanteJDM 15 күн бұрын
However vital it is to set the white balance correctly (in camera preferably), it is just as important to remember than not everything and every scene HAS to have perfect white balance. Half the time you want the image to look the way it did in real life. So if a hall was filled with candles casting yellow and orange light everywhere, it will just look wrong with a pure and correct white balance
